Great year...should have won that second Sugar Bowl...

We averaged less than 15 ppg vs good defenses that year...
4 top-10 teams and 'Zona.

Bama was a baaaaad match-up.
Yep. The one time we took a good old fashioned *** whipping in a championship game, outside of the Tennessee whipping we took that if we won would have been champs I believe. So I guess it's twice.

Dennis Erickson owns that one. When asked if he was doing any extra prep, he said he was going to use what got them there. As if there wasn't plenty of film on that exposing every weakness. We were offensively impotent.

I was a kid watching that game on a TV powered by a gas generator (because it was after Andrew). Canes were a bright spot during a rough year. Fckng George Teague!

That strip lives rent free in my head. I’ve hated bama since. Fck them!
Man I forgot how bad it was further South. Did you live in Homestead or Cutler Ridge?
I was in my second year at UM and was talking a TON of mierda to my friends from high school back in the Midwest. We got destroyed that game. I didn't talk as much smack after that....until 1999/2000.

East side of 152nd. Was not great. Could’ve really used a W in that game.

There wasn’t much smack to talk between 93-99.

that hurricane really impacted that team. They had to evacuate and hold camp at Dodgertown in Vero Beach. Also, I read before that all took place, Erickson was toying with the idea of a no-huddle. Which I think would've been a monster because nobody was doing it at that time in college

But you saw the cracks in recruiting under DE, then you had the Rusty Medearis injury. This team was sort of smoke-and-mirrors and played a team that was the worst possible match-up for them

Lamar Thomas is a big reason the game was lost! Dumb ***!
Terrible effort by him on that play. Believe it or not, there was an off-sides penalty against Bama on that play, so we actually retained possession with 5 yards added from the original LOS.

However, that play should have been a sure fire TD. Teague walking him down and taking the ball right out of his hands sent a clear message. Bama wasn’t losing that game. Even though we got the ball back, I knew we were in for a long night. I think that play broke us.

...and then there's Gino...

I'll say no more.

I guess I will say more…
They had 15 first downs,18 yards passing, 275 total.
Do the math, Bama controlled the game by running it.

With that, it was only 13-6 at the half.
That is until Gino threw 2 consecutive INT’s in our own territory (one for a pick-6) to end it.

K Dub was one of few players to come to play that night.

Alabama was probably the worst team we could’ve played.

If I recall correctly that Miami team was a shell of itself by the end of the season. At least on offense. It might be heresy to say, but Gino was not a great quarterback. Tough as nails, and he had to be playing behind that offensive line. I think the Canes had a tight end at left tackle in the bowl game, but I might be wrong.

Erickson should’ve retired on the spot had Miami won the game. Would’ve been one of the greatest one-game coaching jobs of all time.

that play really signaled the end of the dynasty...

that converted TE your speaking of was Carlos Etheredge, who was from New Mexico (hey, UM is a national brand when they're good). And believe it or not, he and Kipp Vickers (who was a converted DT) both played in the NFL for a stretch
