The future of football practice

At first when I read the article (link above), I thought 1 Apr had come way early for a prank. Interesting piece on an innovative technology being developed and tested at Dartmouth--appears to be getting LOTS of looks from NCAA and NFL teams.

If it pans out, curious to see what D1P5 program makes the leap first. TBIs and CTE are presenting an existential threat to football in its present format. With Dartmouth's "money ball analytics" approach, they might really be on to something in enabling healthier game day athletes who tackle with near perfect technique...therefore performing BETTER as a defensive unit while simultaneously preserving all player's health.

Very interesting. A thorough discussion on that topic would be 20 pages easily. I've often wondered how technology would impact the game in the future and how. That future seems to be rapidly approaching.

On a related note, I believe that Diaz has been attempting to implement the Hawk Tackling method used by Pete Carrol with the Seattle Seahawks. It is a technique with its roots in Rugby style tackling.

Obviously safer, and it will also take out the personal fouls/ejections as well, from players targeting.

I'm a fan of the Steelers...it seems as if they have been using these dummies for the last 5 years. Look at how poorly their defense plays.

"Tackling Dummies" is what our defense is gonna do when we play FSU

Wow, really good idea and great implementation. Hurricane club should look into "named" donations. Anyone willing to set up a "go fund me" site to name the first one ":SHALALA" or maybe "GOLDEN" or "FSU"?

Interesting. They could be onto something. Would like to see more mobility, but give it time.

I just skated with Chris Teevens an hour ago. His brother Buddy is behind these dummies. Pretty cool technology.

The Jetsons already showed us the future of football. It's getting closer and closer.
