The Four Quarters of Recruiting

All this what ur saying about recruiting OP is literally what Al
golden does wrong ON the field as well.. Strong 1st quarter good starts, 2bd quarter they begin to catchup and narrow the gap.. He doesn't adjust to what they've adjusted on. So we typically lose the 3rd quarter and than when we try to catch up in the 4th quarter like in recruiting when we throw out late offers it becomes too late... That's who he is I've seen this for 2 years.

The key IF there's a coaching change from the 3rd to 4th quarters is for the AD to have a very short list of candidates, and hire someone within a week or 2, tops. If you know you're firing Chumley, have 3 guys lined up ranked in order of who you want to offer first. You make the offers, you get the hire done quickly. You tell them to get the staff together ASAP so they can finish out recruiting strong.

In a perfect world, we fire Chumley on Saturday, Nov 28th. We have a new coach in place by at worst, Monday, Dec 7th (hopefully by the 1st--which would give from approx. 12/1 to 12/15 to recruit in person before the dead period). If it's an established guy like Butch, he can have a staff in place with a combination of (very few) holdovers and then guys he wants to bring in by the New Year. During that time, they can still communicate in writing and electronically to schedule official visits. Once the dead period is lifted and things are opened back up from mid-January to the start of February...you can haul in the official visitors and put the full-court press on to retain the kids you want and to sell the high end kids on the new vision.

In other words, we need to move fast after Chumley is canned (if that does indeed happen) to allow the max amount of time for the new staff to make sure they're able to get a hold of the Shaq Quarterman's of the world and their families to let them know that they're still wanted, that they're still a part of Miami's plan going forward, and that a staff who cares about Shaq and his future will be in place ASAP. AND--most importantly, that things will be going in a better direction than the previous regime had it going.

In a perfect world Golden's gone after the slaughter that will take place in October. Coley takes over as interim HC. And we hire the new guy when the season ends, or before if its Butch. And that new coach keeps Kehoe, Beard, and Ice.

Anything that puts Pricko Suavé in as HC (even as interim) doesn't make me happy. Our AD is liable to up and say "oh, well--we've had our new HC here all this time" and hiring Coley as Chumley's successor would be a horrid move.

I'd rather us move fast with a new guy with less time than move slower over a longer period of time because we have an interim guy as the AD's security blanket. Its another excuse I can see coming..."Coley is leading us well, and we feel comfortable with him at the helm until we find our next HC". No thanks.

We have to have an interim HC, or else who's going to be coaching the team? Plus we won't have a new coach until the season ends for every other team, because a high ranking coach isn't just going to leave in the middle of the season. So unless they currently aren't coaching somewhere (Butch), we would have to wait until the season ends to hire who we want. So if we fire Golden mid season, we dam sure aren't going to be promoting any defensive coach. the only real options to be the HC on an interim basis would be Coley or Kehoe.

You're still thinking October for Chumley's dismissal with regular season games remaining. I'm saying dismiss him at the end of the regular season where, if he's done bad enough, we likely won't be prepping for a bowl game. Even if we were, I'd be more comfortable having an interim guy keeping the seat warm for the new HC for JUST the bowl game, as opposed to giving an interim guy like Coley the last third of the season to "prove himself" to the AD as a viable candidate...because NO ONE on this staff currently should be considered for the HC spot after Chumley.

Again though--I think we need to have a super-short timeline to hire the new guy once Chumley's gone. If Blake James wants to keep his job, he'd better have a short list of 3-5 guys who are viable hires ready to go weeks in advance of letting Chumley go. Then, act quickly. Get the new guy into the job ASAP, and let him have December/January to keep 2016's class together.

Hiring the new guy in mid-January while remnants of Chumley's staff are running things from, say, October til then...that's a disaster waiting to happen as far as holding on to most of the 2016 kids. We can keep the kids' attention with a quicker hire (and of course, hopefully the right one). They won't have much time between Chumley's firing and the new guy's hiring to get butthurt about Chumley and his staff being gone. The longer you let that stew, the less likely a kid will want to consider us once the new guy is on board.

I was saying it'd be better if Golden was fired earlier, that way there's more time to keep these 2016 commits. Personally I want Chud to be the HC, and him to bring in Butch as DC or some type of assistant and Dorsey as OC. But I just have a feeling if we fire Golden this year we will be getting Kiffen or Cristobal as our HC (Kiffen>>Cristobal btw).

Anyway, I agree the less time between the hiring the better, but Honestly I'd rather these 2016 recruits know earlier rather than later that we will be getting a new HC. Then hopefully by the last game of the season we can have a new HC already. Then he has the full 2.5 months to just recruit and get these guys that are in 2016 to stick.

But I don't want Coley either, but the fact is, if Golden is fired at any point in the season, he is almost a lock to be the HC for the remaining games.
