Wake Forest University -- or simply Wake Forest, was originally founded on February 3, 1834. They have changed the name three times since it was founded: Wake Forest Manual Labor Institute (1834), Wake Forest College (1838/1839), and Wake Forest University (1967). The school was founded in Wake Forest, North Carolina; however, in 1956 the school moved 100 miles away to Winston-Salem, where the campus now sits. The city holds a population of 258,880 people, making it the sixth-biggest city in North Carolina. It's one of the hardest schools to get into in the state with an acceptance rate of 18%. It's a private school with only a total of 9,300 students.

I don't know what a Demon Deacon is, but that's why we're both here. Let's learn together: A Demon Deacon was originally created by a school reporter after a win over the Duke Blue Devils. At the time, Wake Forest was the only school in the state of North Carolina that did not have a school mascot. According to the Wake Forest school website, "In 1941 Jack R. Baldwin ('43) took on a fraternity brother's dare and dressed up as he thought an old-time Baptist deacon would: top hat, tuxedo, and carrying a black umbrella." pretty interesting.
Wake Forest Traditions
At each home game, you can see the Demon Deacon lead the Wake Forest team onto the field on a motorcycle to pump up the half-full stadium. Seriously, have you ever seen more than 20 Wake Forest fans in your life? Anyway, there's not much more to it than that.
Who's The Quarterback?
Leading the Demon Deacons on the field will be North Carolina transfer quarterback Gio Lopez. He has made stops at three different schools: South Alabama, North Carolina, and Wake Forest. He is 11-13 as a starting quarterback in college football. However, he has been pretty solid for the Demon Deacons, completing 37 of his 59 passes for 575 yards and four touchdowns. He also likes to scramble out of the pocket, rushing 20 times for 98 yards and two scores.
So, Who's The Head Man?
Jake ****ert enters his second season as the head coach for Wake Forest. Last season, he led the team to an overall record of 9-4, the winningest season since 2021. Prior to Wake Forest, he was the head coach at Washington State from 2021-2024. During his four-year tenure, he led the Cougars to an overall record of 23-20. He was the coach who recruited Cam Ward to the Cougars before Ward transferred to Miami. He also coached quarterback John Mateer before he transferred to Oklahoma.
