The biggest difference I've seen on defense is improved tackling and players actually playing in their positions. The scheme hasn't changed, but once the players begin showing the maturity to play their role and do their jobs, the coaches can unleash them more because there is more trust. No different than allowing Kaaya more freedom once he began proving himself. Even Perryman has made comments about players now doing a better job of doing their job.

Laughing at your ignorance. Even one of your fellow whiners above admitted the scheme hasn't changed, but they are playing it more aggressively. You can play more aggressively when you are playing your positions correctly and you trust people to be where they are supposed to be and do what they are supposed to do. Basic football. Learn some.

I think it's a reach. AT MOST, one would argue that the heat made them take a more aggressive defensive approach. Then the PLAYERS rewarded them with good play. While the defense has gotten more aggressive the offense is more conservative--it's not like they lost their minds and went radical. They are doing what works.

No amount of fan pressure makes people coach better or nobody would get fired. You have to give them some credit for instilling the tools. At best the pressure made them try the tools out.

Exactly. Our Db's were on the ground and our LB's were hesitant against GT, and we paid the price for that. That's the coaches fault too, so I'm not absolving them in any way. The real question is how bad are we going to look the next time we face a team that has a robust ground game. That would be Pitt.

Definitely not absolving the coaches. I'm still not a fan of the scheme, but how they played proved it can work when everyone is actually playing their role. I'd still prefer a simpler scheme that doesn't require so much discipline and perfection from each player because all it takes is a couple players freelancing or being confused and the entire defense comes tumbling down. But that doesn't make it an unworkable scheme. But apparently based on some of the feedback I'm getting from the classy banner flying boys, I'm a "slurper" because I correctly and factually pointed out that the scheme has NOT changed, the players simply were doing their jobs and therefore able to play more aggressively.

If we play aggressive defensively against FSU and win the game (win, not come close), I think people will see the pitchfork and torches crew, like myself, tone things down a bit.

Until then, we are doing exactly what we're supposed to do: Beating terrible teams. We've scheduled nothing but cupcakes and we have no idea how Golden will utilize a defense and make adjustments when a real team like FSU comes to town. Win the FSU game or GTFO.

Golden was getting flak from every turn, but then the banner flew and he knew his job was on the line, and no more excuses blaming the players.

Golden had nothing to lose, by loosening his death grip on the team.

Golden was no longer playing to not lose. He had to play to win, with nothing to lose, other than his job.

Golden had no choice with fan pressure, especially the banners. That's not some yahoos on a message board - that's right out in public in front of God and everyone.

He was choking the team to unconsciousness - and all he did was to relax his grip.

He'll NEVER win a championship, because he has some serious character flaws, and once the screaming pressure is off, just like everyone else, he'll revert to his comfort zone - strangling the team again to exert total control.
