The Evolution of Javian Mallory's Game: "We GreenTree Made"

So soon after the original post, I might have started a separate thread calling out OP that it was insane to compare this kid to Gore

Well, seems like I might have been 100% wrong

Last night I saw what OP saw

OP - My Bad - and I am glad to have been wrong

Go Canes !!!!!!!!!
I agree with you. I scoffed at the comparison, but he ran like Gore last night.
Doesn’t (yet) have quite the acceleration or top-end speed of pre-injury Frank, but **** he looked good.

I think the comparison is to the post injury gore

i will continue to say it's dumb to compare any player to a HOF player who actually is not much at all similar. Mallory is way more powerful than Gore ever was in college. He's more similar to a taller Ty Moss before he got fat, that's not bad as Ty could have been great if he stayed in shape. he will never live up to the Gore comparison, he is not a HOF RB.

he runs with great power with that low COG and lean. he also sucks the D inside as they have to crash the A gap when he's in there and at least vs FSU he was able to bounce it.
Dude nobody is saying he’s as good as Gore. They have a lot of similarities. Their builds , running styles and some of the same strengths. He’s nowhere near as explosive but he runs with the same balance and violence. He’s a fr and very comparable to Gore right down to stats . Will he ever be as good as pre injury Gore ? No chance but they have comparable styles, especially post injury.

The way he jab step juked #11 on that OT TD run was a thing of beauty. The Gore comparisons are absolutely legit, and I think it’s all about the explosion from handoff to LOS. Decisive and vertical. And he has a similar frame. Excited to see what’s next for him.

I am just stunned by how good this kid is already and I remember hearing comparisons all summer with him and Frank Gore and I don’t like to buy into that stuff because it gets used too lightly. But **** did he look like Frank running out there last night! Unbelievable stud, Mallory is.

Anyone comparing Javian to Gore must not have been around to watch Frank Gore before the knee surgeries. The guy routinely ripped off 60+ yard houses. Javian is balling out and looks great, but he’s not that.
I dont think distance changes running style. 20 yard runs vs. 60 yard runs doesnt change what you saw between 0 to 10. Does that make sense?

This is great. Makes sense why i think dmoney and i think mensah too said we are a run first team.

Dmoney was saying expect to see us not try to pass protect alot early on, expect us to rely on the run blocking. Pass pro obviously isn’t a strength this year but run blocking may be

Fletch is having his best regular season too imo. Hope he stays healthy all year

Pre surgeries Frank Gore had the potential and breakaway ability to take any run 60+ yards to the house at all times. The comparisons stop there. Javians been great but Gore was on a different plane of existence.
