The Ducks are Quacking....

Time for some real talk.

I've read the Oregon board and their Mario to Miami threads. Here's the one thing that they keep on overlooking or easily dismissing:

YOU CAN'T BEAT HOME. Home is undefeated. How much does Mario value going home?

Let me tell you a story. I was born in Queens but raised in Palatka, Florida. My mother was killed in a car accident when I was four, my father killed himself the following year. Instead of me, my older brother and sister going into foster care, my 70 year old maternal grandparents adopted us and we moved from Queens NY to Palatka FL. At the age of 25, I became a Christian and met my wife in Peniel Baptist Church (where her family continues to attend to this day). I love Peniel. I still have a great relationship with the pastor who is there and I consider him my mentor (and he would agree). Many of the men who discipled me are still there and when my wife and I visit Palatka, I still attend that church and visit with all my former church members and pastor. After a few years, that church sent me to Dallas, TX to go to Bible college (DBU & Criswell), and then to seminary (SWBTS). I pastored a church just west of Dallas (Chico, TX area), and now we have been in Kansas for almost 6 years. The pastor of Peniel is getting older and he will be retiring probably in the next five years.

You bet your *** that I will be applying for that position. Why?

Because IT'S HOME. I have such a love and respect for the church where the Lord saved me and then discipled me. I have such a love and respect for the men of that church who poured their lives into mine. I have such a love and respect for the pastor there; it would be an honor to follow in his steps. My wife's family is there. My older sister lives in Jacksonville (hr north). My older brother lives in Winter Haven. Palatka is Home.

For Mario, Miami is home.

That's more than anything Oregon can offer.
great post. and you are right. nothing is like HOME. let me add this particularity. the cuban exile experience. while the lure of returning home pulls almost everyone, for someone like mario, someone that grew up as a cuban exile or the son of cuban exiles, the pull is even stronger given the difficulties and challenges that we witnessed and lived through as children. i, like many, went away to school and lived outside of miami and when i was ready i retuned to miami. there was never a question of it.

Honestly, this alone is an easy call for Cristobal. The Duck is most definitely a little in the loafers. In my best Seinfeld voice, "Not that there is anything wrong with that!"

The money part sounds like it’s already done if he comes. Ruiz and Mas will be writing massive checks. I can’t see staff salary being even the slightest concern.

Ok. So since I'd love to see some of y'all simply shut the **** up with this topic of money not happening like that I'll explain. The main money and instigator behind all of this has been Carol soffer & her business partners. For those of you unaware of who her main business partners are, that would be Dubai world... For those of you unaware who the main benefactors are in Dubai world (Carol soffer and her family are worth billions with a b) it's Mohammed bin Rashid Al mahktum aka THE CROWN PRINCE OF DUBAI who along with his father have many billions with a B... I can't give you a rational explanation as to why he would care about Miami sports as far as I know he doesn't. But he's a huge sports junkie and he's been to several canes games where he's sat with us in the president's box along with Carol. From what I know a very supportive business partner... Take that as you will. The network we have access to isn't scared of Phil knight (who by the way is no longer anywhere near as active as some of y'all seem to think when it relates to coaches)

Considering this crazy off-season, if UM does make an offer for Mario, it will probably significantly dwarf what they could have gotten him for 3 years ago.

Miami gonna Miami, I guess.

Considering the $4 million Temple 'buyout' of Diaz, the $2 million owed to fire Diaz, and what is happening to coaches' salaries currently...the idea that they'll have wasted at least...what?...$10 million dollars?

Cost of incompetence.
They have been doing this forever now, with Mark Richt being the exception.
Hiring some bum on the cheap or promoting some inexperienced coordinator, extending them, winning nothing and then buying them out.
When they could have spent the money on hiring a real coach. It’s ridiculous and why we have sucked for 18 years.

Good go get Lane... While we're waiting on a likely No from Mario we could of already locked up Lane
Lane is my top choice, too. I’ll be really happy with Mario, though. It’s like the 10 you miss at the club, but take the 9 home. I think Mario has already told them he’s coming. I believe he would’ve ended all this talk weeks ago if he had no interest.

"Earlier today, an English tourist had his holiday ruined after he was attacked by a wild Ibis in broad daylight.

"We've warned people time and time again - these birds are dangerous."

Ducks want to f#ck around, the Ibis is going to teach them a painful lesson.

That’s the main thing too many people underestimate IMO.

They use logic to decide why someone wouldn’t leave a certain coaching position but NOTHING beats home.

Especially when home is offering a position at your alma mater.

That pull has to be immense. That’s why I’ve always believed he wouldn’t say no to us if we made him an enticing enough offer

Mario may very well stay at Oregon but Former Canes have this Cult mentality when it comes to this program anything is possible

I would prefer Lane as well. I think Lane would have us back quicker. Then in a few years make the call for Mario. People say Lane would bolt quick...I don't think so. He loves SoFlo and still has a home there. And Lane already has that Miami no f's given attitude if us vs the world. I want that coach that will run up points on you and say if you don't like it, stop us. (Like Jimmy Johnson) Lane fits that profile.

I dont want to **** on the duck tears parade but im getting the feeling manny may be back this dragging on and coaches out recruiting seems weird to me

Mario has tried coming here several times and it's fell through. You got to think that this may be the last chance, during a time where they're promising tons of investment and a whole new athletic department.
