The Downside Of The Portal.

Had a coach done to us what Manny did to Temple, the outrage here would reach new heights.

I get why Manny did what he did. It makes perfectly logical sense. Why this young man is doing what he's doing, I don't know. It's his life to live and while I might not necessarily agree with how wishy washy he is, it's on him. I don't hate him for it, dislike him for it, or even really care. It is what it is, but it's amusing seeing some of the takes in this thread.
i heard he was pretty straight up with temple that if um ever opened up, he would pursue it. just happened sooner than expected.lol

So...many didn't choose UM over staying at Temple?

I'm sure he'll come up with some creative way to avoid that question.

That's the same dude who hammered Mario for making a good career move and he gives Manny a pass. Manny doesn't need a pass, nor did Mario, but some get all caught up in their feelings and can't see the forest through the trees.

I'm fine with that. It was an upward move and no employer in their right mind should ever get upset when someone makes a business decision that'll better their lives.

Follow along, friend. When Manny made his decision to go to Temple he didn’t have the option to choose between Temple and UM. When Manny negotiated an exit clause with Temple, both sides agreed that he could leave if Temple got a $4M payment.

Likewise, players can leave if they want to leave. They just need to follow the rules that are in place. No one can stop Bru’s Room from transferring several times. There are repercussions to it though just as there are with most decisions.

I'll give them both a pass but fck Nick Saban for ditching the Dolphins right after saying he wouldn't.

No it's not changing your mind on an initial decision when only 1 option was available when that decision was made. It's bettering yourself when a better option becomes available. Bru McCoy wasn't transferring from San Jose St to Texas. He was deciding between USC & Texas and changed his mind, then did it again. Manny wasn't choosing between Temple and Miami or any other Power 5 head coaching job. I'm not sure how your remedial *** can't grasp how the 2 are different, but you have a good night as well.

Since you're resorting to name calling ...we have no need to proceed further beyond this.

Anyone who claims that ANY change, regardless of the circumstances....is actually NOT a change...clearly shows to ALL who the remedial *** is.

"Manny didn't change his mind. He accepted a new opportunity that wasn't available when he made his 1st choice. "...SO WHAT?

Facts:
  1. Manny made a choice/decision to go to Temple....he clearly made up his mind..signed a contract
  2. Manny changed from his initial decision to go to Temple ...to go to Miami ( which FYI is a different place).....thus he changed his mind from his initial decision to take the Temple job...why? doesn't matter...even if he wanted to and told them he'd rather go to Miami...HE made a decision and CHANGED it
  3. That's called a CHANGE. .....ANYWHERE, EVERYWHERE
  4. Look up the meaning of change and spare yourself further embarrassment

Im following that this thread is stating how ridiculous it is that a player changed his mind so quickly. I joked about how our Coach dipped on Temple even faster than said player. Dont see why this 4m keeps being brought up when Diaz gets 0 of that. He made a decision to be the Temple HC over staying in Miami, which was hardly an upgrade pay wise, but mostly a resume booster to further his career. Then, when presented another opportunity, he dropped his bags and took it in a heart beat. How is that different than a recruit being committed to Miami for 3 days than flipping to Bama as soon as they offer?

If a Georgia kid signs with UF for instance, but wants to transfer to UGA to be closer to home or whatever reason, he should be able to do so. As longs as it’s within a time table between signing day and the last summer session.

There should be no restrictions on the conference or whatever. When I see a contract for coach that restricts said coach from leaving to a better personal situation in conference then yea that fair.

There is always going to be "restrictions" placed whenever you sign a contract. Just like if you lease a car or rent a home ( if you opt out early there is a penalty)

Coaches have these restrictions in the form of buyouts in their contract.

Players will have to have certain restrictions as well. I'm not in favor of having them sit a year though.

Are players professionals or are they student-athletes..why should a player have restrictions that another student at a institution does not..

Im on board....Then let's just make it a free-for-all no restrictions transfer wherever you want whenever you want that's it. The tampering and bag game will be taken to a whole new level

Talk about being indecisive. Kid left USC 2 weeks after enrolling, and is now considering going back to USC. I'm all for player mobility but this is just ridiculous.
You do realize what the portal is and kids have been transferring for decades? I don’t think you understand what it is. It has nothing to do with the portal moreso with the player.

So, for anyone who has been interested in the Bru McCoy saga, here's the latest from the Texas site:

10:50 AM UPDATE (TUES): Bru McCoy was not at a Texas team workout Tuesday morning kicking off summer conditioning. According to a source close to the situation, Texas receivers coach Drew Mehringer is in southern California trying to listen to and reassure Bru McCoy about any concerns he might have with regard to remaining at Texas. That source said the primary reason McCoy is wavering about whether to stay at Texas or return to USC is a severe case of homesickness. That source said McCoy has been feeling this way for a few weeks and began telling some friends on the USC team he was considering returning to USC about two weeks ago. The source said McCoy has been reluctant to sign the eligibility waiver Texas has been trying to file on his behalf (because he's been having second thoughts about staying at Texas), thus the waiver still hasn't been filed by UT. I’m not saying free for all throughout the whole year..I’m saying if a kid decides to transfer after completing a semester there should not be restrictions. If a new signee decides that they want to transfer before the start of fall semester they be able to..just like regular students have that ability..football is a fall semester sport. If a kid finishes out that fall semester and decides to move on he should be able too without restrictions..same with the spring

Sounds like bad guidance and or parenting. If it was my kid I’d tell him to figure it out at the school he signed with, it’s part of becoming a adult
Suckas like Canefrog are enablers.. probably lives at home and this struck a nerve.
