The Disaster That Is The College Football Playoff Already

I'm sorry…but playing TAMU, UF, USC, Bama (all in consecutive weeks), BYE, AU is hard as ****…you're talking about a conference that had five teams finish in the top 10. I'm no SEC apologist…I just call it like I see it. When you say that they could have just walked through that schedule, you're just wrong. If FSU is playing the national championship @Auburn, they would have lost.

This is NOT a playoff. This is an extra set of games that still has a voting component to it. Division I football (i.e., FBS schools) is the only level of team competition (basketball, hockey, baseball, football, volleyball, etc) that does not have a true playoff. The teams are placed in positions to play in the post season based off of votes/opinions from sports media and coaches. Every other level of football (peewee through NFL) incorporates a true playoff where regardless who the "popular team is" the winner is always determined on the field of play. Remember when the Giants won the superbowl over one of the "greatest" modern teams (Patriots)

So with that said, this aint no playoff, its gonna be an SEC/NCAA/ESPN money maker. If we aint in it, I aint watching. I have not watched ESPN since football season ended. I only watch when we play, turn channel during commercials/half time. Refuse to provide them with unnecessary ratings. Wont watch again till 2014 football season

This is not a true "playoff", it's more like a "payoff".

Whichever 4 teams ranked in the top 6 at the end of the year who will draw the most fans to these "playoff" games will get the spots.

$$$ talks.

For example:

1. Alabama 12-0
2. FSU 12-0
3. Oregon 11-1
4. Miami 11-1
5. Auburn 11-1
6. Ohio State 11-1

In that scenario, it would not surprise me if Alabama, FSU, Auburn, and Ohio State are the four teams to get chosen for the "playoff".

Sounds like the excuses are already being made why an SEC team who doesn't win their conference, maybe even division, will get in over another BCS conference champion.

Bingo. The closest thing to something legit is to go to 8 teams, 5 conference winners get in automatically and you have 3 at large bids, no more than 2 teams from a conference.

As usual the overlords have it wrong again. Its NOT about meddling with the post-season. College football is all about the regular season. If they want to strengthen the validity of the national champion they need to bolster the REGULAR SEASON.

(Similar to what they used to do in hoops) Week 3 of every season should be reserved for a cross conference challenge. Each team plays the team in another major conference that finished in the same place as them the previous season. #1 -vs- #1, #2 -vs- #2, etc. Doing this would give voters a lot more "MMA math" to work with when trying to figure out rankings. As well, it create some great match ups of teams that likely dont play each other often.

This would also force the hand of the Big 12 to get their **** together and round out their conference. Same can be said for the two conferences out west that never get along (Mtn. West and WAC). They need to find 12 schools in the mountain and pacific time zones to form another power conference to truly find balance. They've gotta be able to do it (Fresno State, Boise State, BYU, San Diego State, Colorado State, etc.)

Anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Only real Canes know what that is all about.

Every year we go undefeated, we will play in the playoffs.

There are so many things wrong with this committee and playoff.

First, the committee. The committee makes no sense. Why do we care about "their" opinion? Why are we taking the actual results and allowing people to interpret them? Why the *** is Condoleezza Rice on the committee, is she an expert?

The only things that should matter are the following:

1. W/L, and
2. SOS

Second, the playoff. 4 teams. 4 teams makes no sense. At best, one conference champion gets snubbed and that is at best. It should be 8 teams with 5/8 winning their conference championship. If 5/8 are tied to conference championships, you FULLY remove the human element from 63% of the playoff.

3/8 teams will need to be playoff eligible (12 games, 7 at most home, required to play 8 Conference games and 2 BCS non-conference games). The 3 best non-conference champions go to the playoffs (at most 2 per conference).

That is it.

The one thing that really, really sucks about the reactive nature of this committee is they will absolutely put credence into when a loss occurred to skirt teams up and down the polls as they see fit.

Teams shouldn't be punished for losing late in the season (i.e. Ok. State in 2011) or be rewarded for losing early and having a flawed system keep them in the thick of things (i.e. Alabama in 2011).

Your resume should speak for itself. Not deciphered by a committee that no matter how hard they try will be bias and influenced by outside parties.

It's going to be such a mess when the likely scenario of one of the power conference champions gets snubbed for the #2 squad in the SEC. Whatever minor faith will be restored in the system early on will be gone.

They are setting it up to be 2 SEC teams every year

Which is BS but if the other conference's representatives beat them this will be eliminated. The OU and FSU wins last year, especially the whooping Okie put on Bama was a good start. The SEC gets way too much hype I agree, but it got there for a reason, they won 7 ships in a row. Dont like it? Do something about it. The rest of the country's media is also tired of the SEC circle jerk, Im sure they are ready to dead this SEC nonsense....

Well just looking at that scenario Bama and FSU would be automatic, we would never go 11-1 with FSU going 12-0, because the way the ACC is set up is that if we win that many games we play FSU twice, once in the regular season and once again in the ACC chip game. That playoff would FSU, Bama, Oregon and Ohio State plain and simple. Where the real cluster **** will begin is when we have a bunch of two loss teams, then I can see the politics getting involved.....

How about when a team like Boise State, Fresno State or Northern Illinois goes undefeated, or even someone from the AAC like UCF and they get shutout for a 1 loss power conference champion because they "deserved it more".

Ill be fine with that......
Just being honest

Ppl don't even watch the SEC games anymore they just assume it's a strong conference year in and year out. As someone else said that conference was DOO-DOO last year. UF and UGA were .500 when they played last year.

All you need to know is that an Above Average Auburn team won the conference.

read what it says again....its about the final weeks rankings before conf champs. If we are #4 we are in and there you got with playing FSU 3x in a year....because the ACC is too stuborn to put us in the same conference.

At this point, lets just make everyone have their own little national championship; every school gets a ring thats says 'National Champs" on it regardless if they play in the playoff system or the Meneike Car Care bowl because apparently there's no true solution to this matter...

If it's going to be four teams then there really does need to be a qualifier. Make every conference have to have a conference championship game. Make every conference go to a an 8-game conference schedule. Make every conference have to play two games against other power conference teams.

We need to ensure that an equitable schedule is played by every team or go to eight teams. Otherwise the fcukery will be rampant.
