The Defensive Line

Look, I am not blaming last night's loss on the defense. I am simply saying what smart football fans know. Our defense is overrated. Our defense always performs poorly against offenses with a pulse. A smart coach with average Talent, not exceptional Talent, will always beat Manny Diaz.

That’s fine. All I am saying is without 5 turnovers and scoring 28 points we probably win last nights game. The offense is the biggest reason this years defense had any problems.

And I agree with you Manny’s defense has some issues but they played well enough this season for us to be 12-1 with our schedule. Can’t ask for much more.

Don't blame them for playing all night. The offense being non existent leads to the defense being gassed.
How many threads need to be made before people finally understand and accept that there are two/three sides of the ball that drastically impact each other.

To be fair we did go up against the number one running back in the nation Without our 2 best DL players.

We had more turnovers than points, and you go after the defense. Get ****ed. By your logic, it's the defense's fault that Rosier's first pass was an interception, and the first pass caught by a receiver happened in the 3rd quarter.

I watch the DL a lot. It’s too early to tell on Simpson.

He has limited inside talent. Willis is a stud but Bethel and Ford have been nothing all season. Odenigbo has a few nice moments but nothing special.

I think that overall the DL played with more sound technique then under Kul.

However I question his Personnel decisions. Bethel should not have been a starter most of the season. I think he didn’t use Garvin right by lining him up at the LE spot. Garvin is our best pass rusher and should have been at RE. If anyone should have been at LE it should have been JJ who is stronger but less of a threat off the edge.

Many have raved how great Jess Simpson has been after losing Kool. The DL looked good most of the season against ACC and mid major schools but against LSU and Wisconsin whose OL's are at a different level and our DL looked average at best being neutralized with limited push and presence in the backfield. We had an absolute star in Willis who was our best DT in the last decade plus and without him last night we saw how dependent we were on existence to make the others look good. Premier DL's would not get owned by a 7-5 Wisconsin team (yes they have some talent on that OL but so do we on DL). Wisconsin ran for over 300 yards against us running simple off tackle plays for 6-8 yards with ease completely manhandling our front 7 all game long. Personally, am still high on the Simpson hire but by no means am ready to crown his performance this year.
People who hope simpson can cover for poor depth and talent will be disappointed.

Line looked the same as Kool’s lines against real OLs.

This has been the case for the last three years.

It’s overrated by UM fans, most notable.

People around here turn every sign of life into evidence of the afterlife.

Diaz did fine. Our D isn’t as deep, talented or experienced as some hyped it to be. But it was much better than our offense.

Those guys looked like they were playing on roller skates last night. Willis opted out and it was all she wrote.

I consider myself a smart fan and knowledgeable to boot. Coming from a successful coaching family and playing the game myself. However, I am no expert. But I disagree with the premise that our defense is overrated. I watched closely last night and realized pretty quickly that our defense was simply going through the motions. Linebackers filled wrong gaps, weren't aggressive and got washed through out the game. We had some players like JJ and redwine and few others who played their hearts out start to finish but most others just played as if they didn't give two ****s knowing the offense and richt hung them out to dry. I don't blame them whatsoever. This HC, staff, and program is exactly what it looks like... A total joke and failure.

Signs of an overrated defense. By the way, You Make Great Excuses.

Bethel is not a dt- he’s too light in the ***- he’s too light in the ***!!!!!!

Plus I thought that Felder would transform Jon Ford into a double team shredding, pocket collapsing force of nature- but he failed- again

Openng kick off...

Miami’s Defense got its **** pushed in from the very beginning. An elite D doesn’t allow a one dimensional team, with a back up QB, that runs a slow Offense do that to them....again.

Agreed. However, saying it’s better than our Offense is not saying much.
