The defense massively underachieved this year

There are at least ten players that will play in the NFL in some capacity: Thomas, Harris, Jackson, Garvin, McIntosh, Norton, Shaq, Pickney, Jackson, and Johnson.

You should be able to comfortably field an elite defense with that type of front seven talent. More importantly, you shouldn't struggle to stop one dimensional/mediocre offenses.

Say what you want about the offense but the bulk of the talent is on defense, a good coaching job there and Miami ends the year 12-1.

Defense laid an egg last night for sure. The offense wasn't terrible and they still gave up 34.

Overall they did underachieve

Yea but how many are first rounders....the talent level at UM should be a first rounder at DT with a first rounder backing him up. I dont care about nfl guys cause bumbs have made it to the league before and most jags do. Our secondary should always have a game changer at safety....we should have a first round linebacker always

TOP always kills our defense, when thats lopsided we get ripped and we were giving up 200 a game on the ground our linebackers werent good all year against the run

I agree tfl and turnovers are great but if that means majority of the game they will consistently rush for 4-6 yards a run and have every underneath throw then I don't want it. Stop with all the gimmicky **** and get the **** defense off the field. Teams had way too much success on 3rd downs this year. Plus QBs that play ok vs everyone else then for some reason have a field day against us

You'd have a point if offenses weren't lighting up the D from the jump. Wisconsin's first drive was headed for a score before the fumble.

It's the kiss of death for a defense to struggle against the run. Even Bethune Cookman and Toledo had success running the ball. It not only kills time of possession, but lead to too many 3rd and shorts. Diaz best find a solution or Richt's patience will run thin.

A defense predicated on a luck-based statistic like turnovers gained is one that will eventually falter when they don't get them. Especially a team whose points off turnovers isn't exactly among the best in the nation.

It was a nice rallying cry, but ultimately, a hollow statistic that year-to-year isn't an indicator of success.

Miami needs to bring the talent level up at defensive back. Bringing back Michael Jackson, him taking that next step (I may like him more then others), along with shedding Delaney and moving Malek into a lesser role as we bring in more talent will help get that ypa statistic into a nationally elite level. DBs need to take that next step from good, to great or even elite. Last night wasn't their best showing, but for the most part, over the year, they were well above average to good. But as a unit, they need to step up. It just could really use an infusion of talent and we're getting that. These guys are not traditional Miami quality CBs, but they have played above their talent level, IMO. If you're Patrick Surtain Jr. or Tyson Campbell, if you don't think you can come in here and win a job opposite Jackson, you have self esteem issues. DB is probably the second unit on the team that needs the most talent infused into it. Offensive line being the first.

Also, need a concerted effort to stopping the run. RJ and Norton need to come back. They are NFL players, but they have a lot of work to do in the offseason. Bigger, stronger. Miami needs to add some more beef here, too. Last night exposed our lack of depth.

Giving up running plays gasses a defense to cause ypur in chase mode
