The D is still ******* horrible

The d is not awful. They have played well against 3 really different offenses. Now we need to see the defense performs against a more stout team.

If we were in the Sun Belt, I think Al could compete for the conference title on a regular basis.

D has improved but has a ways to go!! Secondary has improved as a unit but not as impressive as some of the experts had them pegged.

LULZ at 3 "really different" offenses. Two HS teams and a team that UVA just ragdolled.

most of yall dumb as ****, arkansas state run an uptempo offense and that sh*t is hard as **** to defend. out of 89 plays they only got 334 yards which is 3.75 per play. Yall complaining just because you want to stfu.

Yeah you have to be dumb as a bag of rocks to complain about the D today. One of the tougher tests they will have due to Ark St's Offensive nature . Nebraska will be much easier in those terms . The question next week is can OUR Offense do enough to win , if kaaya plays well then yes .

Bull****, the secondary has been by far the weakest unit on this team. Howard might as well change his last name to Toast.

We have some great athletes in our secondary but they take horrible angles and have no idea what to do when the ball is in the air. And it's going to be awesome when a garden variety Va Tech offense hangs 40 points on this D because they still have no idea how to cover a tight end.

Coming into this game, the Defense was Top 10 in rushing defense, yards/rush attempt, yards/play, and total defense.

Today, the final tally was:

89 plays
329 yards

47 Rushes
93 Yards

42 passes
236 yards

That's 3.69 yards/play
That's a little less than 2 yards/rush
That's 5.6 yards/pass

Whether you like it or not, the defense is playing really well thru this point of the season.

This is one case where the numbers are lying.

Poor ball skills, crappy tackling techniques, unexplainable scheming issues…any good team is going to do well against this defense. Sure we can beat up on crappy teams, which is an improvement over last year, but I just cannot say that our defense is good after actually watching them play.

The run defense is much improved, so that's nice. Everything else sucks.

lmao this was my thought wow these guys dig deep to find ways to make us look better on d . I'm glad we won , however to be believe this D is a good D makes you a football ******.

There was nothing wrong with the alignment. Jamal Carter taking 3 false steps and thinking the QB had the ball was the problem. There was lane for him to fill. He makes the tackle and its 4th down.

We definitely have some fundamental issues with alignment. When we pass rush Trent Harris essentially from the slot, that is not likely to be effective against teams with crisper passing games.

I am happy about other aspects, though.

And they manhandled that UL offense. Hence, they ragdolled them. Meanwhile, that same team blew us out and pretty much toyed with us in the 2nd half, and our fans were simply hoping to avoid being blown out as a sign of progress.

your numbers should look good when you play Arky State, FAMU, and an overrated UL team that just lost to bottomfeeder UVA.

Not that the Ga. defense is doing well today, but here's an alignment (not necessarily the same zone blitz) I'd prefer to see against spread formations:

You don't have to move out your OLB/DE as far out as the **** hash. You're allowing the offensive formation to dictate enormous gaps in your coverage.
