The Culture At Miami Is Broken

I agree. Which is why I thing Blake's got to go. Who in the AD has the dog in them to demand accountability? Blake? The AD that let the coach promote assistants to be co defensive coordinators without even an interview? We need a ruthless, win at all costs type heading up the AD and Blake is not it. All our recent coaches (Richt included) have been caretaker types that keep the program clean and graduate players but none scream program changer.

This is why hiring an OC or even a new coach isn't going to make a difference since the direction coming out of the AD is not win championships but keep the program out of trouble (despite Blake's tweet). IMO it's telling that Butch was right there for the taking but we went with the safe bet. Now look where we are.

Again, it really isn't about the AD.
He suxs, but he's merely the symptom.

We can waste massive amounts of time analyzing the motivation of the BOT, because we can't change them. Bottom line is that the health of the football program starts with a visionary AD. Flake has been a total bust; wasted years and millions of $. He needs to go yesterday.

AD is only as good as the people with the purse-strings.
In simple terms, suppose you hire a chef to prepare a special meal
at your house...do you think it will make a difference if you are willing to spend 100 dollars vs 100000 dollars for chef and ingredients?

Something that's been dead for almost two decades now can't technically be "broken".

Flake is a disgrace to the name AD and needs to go, no doubt. And as Jankovich showed, the right AD can give life to a program.

The problem is it's been 25 years since Jankovich, and 18 years since Butch, and no AD or coach has come close to them since.

What's been the constant behind the scenes during that time? A BOT that seems to have an aversion to hiring competent people that are good at their jobs.

Could be that. Or....maybe Miami did want to be good at football at one point in time. They hired Lou Saban, who was an NFL head coach. Then they hired Howard, who was Bear Bryant’s OC, right before being Don Shula’s OC for the only undefeated team in NFL history.

It was after the antics of the Johnson era that UM decided to de-emphasize football. Nobody else took us down. We took ourselves down.

None of the people who were around in the Saban/Howard days are around today. Not in the athletic department, and not on the BOT.
Offer Alonso Highsmith 2 million a year to take the Athletic Director job and this mess would be fixed in 2-3 years guaranteed!!!

Let’s put aside the fact that Mark Richt is an incompetent boob and go deeper. We’ve been on a free fall since 2002. 16 years of looking absolutely ridiculous after one of the most dominant runs in college football history. Somewhere along the way, we’ve lost our... way? Whatever, f you.

We keep attacking the symptoms but never the disease.

Other than being horrible coaches what else do they have in common? They are nothing. They are merely pimples that continue to grow. We pop one, and a new one sprouts. The cycle continues. They are replaceable pawns in an endless, sick and twisted Saw-styled game. Fire Richt? Prepare to wake up confused in a dirty room chained to a toilet, and have Jigsaw come riding up on his tricycle saying “in front of you is Rob Chudzinski and Marc Tressel....”

How about our athletic directors?

It’s obvious that the issues here go deeper than one coach. Deeper than an AD. We’ve been burning through the zits but never addressed the root cause. Let’s stop slapping bandaids on the symptoms and eradicate the disease: Who are the most powerful BOT members?

I’m genuinely asking. DiMare, Fain, Miller? Haven’t they all had their say in pulling the strings on hires and salaries? Why are they sticking their noses in a decision regarding athletics? They sell tomatoes, build houses, and give people the Noro virus on cruise ships. They have no business hiring coaches. They know nothing about sports or hiring winners.

There is a broken culture deeply ingrained in this university and it has been festering since the lazy Coker hire. I’m not sure if those 3 are the most powerful BOT members, or have been around that long, but the issues at this program are deeply embedded and extend to the very top.

This group of BOT or whoever is responsible for all the zits needs to go pluck an assistant AD from somewhere like Bama and give them full autonomy. Find someone who actually specializes in building winning athletic programs and leave them alone. Cough up the money and get a killer AD and go to **** and get out of their way. This system isn’t working as currently constructed, and it’s time to stop repeating the same mistakes.

They’ve meddled in every hire we’ve made and have turned our program from powerhouse, to sleeping giant, to dead lifeless sack of shlt. Unless we retool how we’re doing things, we’ll continue this despicable cycle of having our cheeks busted annually. That might work for Blake, but it must stop at Miami.

Fire Mark Richt.
Shoot Blake James from a cannon.
Reign in the BOT.
Easily the POST OF THE YEAR 🎯🎯🎯🎯 made me fight back a few tears.
Thank you Cane!

The Cane football program sole college football from the institutions and they formulated plans to take it back. Our adminstration was part of it. Nobody wanted The U we all love. It was product of the players with not much from the institution other than resistance from the morning after that first NC. They screwed Howard over his stadium project and never expect some hick named Jimmy to do much. But this hick loved players with attitude and we had them everywhere. Jim Keely started the whole coming back thing and it was on.

Under JJ we started destroying programs and conferences. We took over TV revenue because of our ratings. Our independent status meant we could play for NC in any bowl except the Rose. A law suit stripped away ncaa control of tv contract and conferences got huge money power in thier hands while we loss our vice grip on tv money. Our great leaders took us into conference which made schedules easier but starter the watering down process. Dennis replaced JJ and really was our first nice guy. JJ and Butch left so much talent that even drunk, Dennis won two NCs and team attitude rubbed off on him a little.

Then they could not find another “nice” guy HC who would take the job. I guess insiders knew the adminstration had managed to create the biggest ncaa scandal in history. So they made the mistake of offering it to Butch. Thier scandal almost did us in but Butch was JJs secret recruiting master with pure love for Canes. He was thier nightmare, ran clean program that build greatest teams in history. Positioned to take down the newly reconstructed conference power structure, something needed to be done. Enter the contract ***** over.

See, we thought everyone hated us because everyone did. That included our own administration. When they got Donna in, it was her duty to go for the kill. She did and here we are. Our only chance is they ***** up and hire the wrong, meaning a good, coach.
PURE EXCELLENCE in posting!
“Nobody wanted The U we all love. It was product of the players with not much from the institution other than resistance from the morning after that first NC.”

This encapsulates everything we’ve ever needed to know. Those players and coaches we love and revere did this on their own! We’ve been clinging to it being revisited but it was inside of people...not the institution. Our greatness occurred despite the institution.

I’ve been kicked off of two blogs for posting like this thread years ago, but I really never said it or understood completely and thoroughly until this thread.

As a far removed Clevelander I knew what I felt was wrong and an inside job being done at UM. What I didn’t know was the HISTORICAL back drop and occurrences that clearly support our claims of sabotage.

Thank you Cane!

Best thread of the year by far. Sam was a genious. Howard was a close second and Jimmy kept it going along with Dennis. POP POP and another POP. That is also due to the great players that kept it all going from coach to coach.

Thank you, and you are welcome. It is great to find people who saw this from the beginning. I had a little bit of insider seat, lots of political crap, and cultural understanding of the difference between right and left wing racism used as means to power. We were close to having it back last year but a coach like Howard to close the deal. Believe it or not, we need a southerner or country coach. Mark is from Nebraska and doesn’t understand. The good news is, they will ***** up one time and just like last year, our kids will find thier Cane and burst out again.

I would say this is one of the best posts of the year. It pretty much says everything.

For us Cane fans we are on a lone highway to where?....

We as fans need to either accept mediocrity as the school seems to. Or let the school have it's Football program go back to the 70's. Without the money.

Wish it was different, man.

i would rather have had butch or even mario now because they understand miami culture.
What Miami culture? Seriously, we've been relevant 3 years out of last 24 years or so. We dont have a culture anymore.

It's all about THE U BRAND. The Brand is still going strong because it is **** which was part of the culture when we became relevant in the 80's. Pretty simple to comprehend.
