Let’s put aside the fact that Mark Richt is an incompetent boob and go deeper. We’ve been on a free fall since 2002. 16 years of looking absolutely ridiculous after one of the most dominant runs in college football history. Somewhere along the way, we’ve lost our... way? Whatever, f you.

We keep attacking the symptoms but never the disease.

Coker
Shannon
Golden
Richt

Other than being horrible coaches what else do they have in common? They are nothing. They are merely pimples that continue to grow. We pop one, and a new one sprouts. The cycle continues. They are replaceable pawns in an endless, sick and twisted Saw-styled game. Fire Richt? Prepare to wake up confused in a dirty room chained to a toilet, and have Jigsaw come riding up on his tricycle saying “in front of you is Rob Chudzinski and Marc Tressel....”

How about our athletic directors?

Blake James
Sean Eichorst
Kirby Hocoutt
Paul Dee

It’s obvious that the issues here go deeper than one coach. Deeper than an AD. We’ve been burning through the zits but never addressed the root cause. Let’s stop slapping bandaids on the symptoms and eradicate the disease: Who are the most powerful BOT members?

I’m genuinely asking. DiMare, Fain, Miller? Haven’t they all had their say in pulling the strings on hires and salaries? Why are they sticking their noses in a decision regarding athletics? They sell tomatoes, build houses, and give people the Noro virus on cruise ships. They have no business hiring coaches. They know nothing about sports or hiring winners.

There is a broken culture deeply ingrained in this university and it has been festering since the lazy Coker hire. I’m not sure if those 3 are the most powerful BOT members, or have been around that long, but the issues at this program are deeply embedded and extend to the very top.

This group of BOT or whoever is responsible for all the zits needs to go pluck an assistant AD from somewhere like Bama and give them full autonomy. Find someone who actually specializes in building winning athletic programs and leave them alone. Cough up the money and get a killer AD and go to **** and get out of their way. This system isn’t working as currently constructed, and it’s time to stop repeating the same mistakes.

They’ve meddled in every hire we’ve made and have turned our program from powerhouse, to sleeping giant, to dead lifeless sack of shlt. Unless we retool how we’re doing things, we’ll continue this despicable cycle of having our cheeks busted annually. That might work for Blake, but it must stop at Miami.

Fire Mark Richt.
Shoot Blake James from a cannon.
Reign in the BOT.

I don't disagree.
But you won't get someone from Alabama or similar elite program if the commitment isn't there from the school.
Notice who our AD is?
There is a reason why we have someone who is way over his head.
A real AD wants no part of this school.

The Noro virus part made me laugh. Thanks for allowing me to know I'm not dead.

We have a terrible eye for coaches because we look for the wrong things. We're after image guys, not guys that actually know how to coach. The through line between Coker and Richt is they are a series of "nice guys" that aren't great anything...aren't really good at anything by the time they became Miami coaches. A bunch of never-won-nothing coaches that weren't on the ascent to anything by the time they were Miami coaches.

The AD problem.

Paul Dee was a bozo. But generally speaking, a power player in college football. Kirby Hocutt was a rising star, used Miami as a stepping stone gig and is now, generally speaking, a power player in college football. Eichorst, too, a riser, moved on to big boy investment football in Nebraska and is now second in command at Texas. Not a power player, but definitely no jamoke in this medium. Used Miami as a stepping stone. Long term vision with Hocutt and Eichorst was never in the cards. Get in, get out types. Cool for them, but they were detrimental to Miami long term. No stability after Paul Dee.

Now we get to Blake James...who is none of the above. He is a small timer in comparison...and it shows.

Unfortunately, in the here and now, James along with Richt are going to be saved in the short term, by their fundraising efforts and what happens on the field in any sport won't matter. The BOT is more interested in on campus infrastructure right now, which will be outdated by the time its done. In every sports, we basically have a good ol guy thats here to make sure no one fvcks up too bad while the powers that be raise and spend money.

This program ain't for winners anymore. Everyone should be fired, but here we are. No changes will be made at any level.

This has nothing to do with the "culture" of the team, which is as **** as its ever been. These players just give up. They did through Coker, Shannon, Golden, and now Richt. They fold. They're soft.

I agree. Which is why I thing Blake's got to go. Who in the AD has the dog in them to demand accountability? Blake? The AD that let the coach promote assistants to be co defensive coordinators without even an interview? We need a ruthless, win at all costs type heading up the AD and Blake is not it. All our recent coaches (Richt included) have been caretaker types that keep the program clean and graduate players but none scream program changer.

This is why hiring an OC or even a new coach isn't going to make a difference since the direction coming out of the AD is not win championships but keep the program out of trouble (despite Blake's tweet). IMO it's telling that Butch was right there for the taking but we went with the safe bet. Now look where we are.

1000% this is the AIDS that is killing the program. All the other problems that are killing the program stem from being compromised.

It starts with the expectation of wholesome image and with increased admission standards.

i would rather have had butch or even mario now because they understand miami culture.

The Cane football program sole college football from the institutions and they formulated plans to take it back. Our adminstration was part of it. Nobody wanted The U we all love. It was product of the players with not much from the institution other than resistance from the morning after that first NC. They screwed Howard over his stadium project and never expect some hick named Jimmy to do much. But this hick loved players with attitude and we had them everywhere. Jim Keely started the whole coming back thing and it was on.

Under JJ we started destroying programs and conferences. We took over TV revenue because of our ratings. Our independent status meant we could play for NC in any bowl except the Rose. A law suit stripped away ncaa control of tv contract and conferences got huge money power in thier hands while we loss our vice grip on tv money. Our great leaders took us into conference which made schedules easier but starter the watering down process. Dennis replaced JJ and really was our first nice guy. JJ and Butch left so much talent that even drunk, Dennis won two NCs and team attitude rubbed off on him a little.

Then they could not find another “nice” guy HC who would take the job. I guess insiders knew the adminstration had managed to create the biggest ncaa scandal in history. So they made the mistake of offering it to Butch. Thier scandal almost did us in but Butch was JJs secret recruiting master with pure love for Canes. He was thier nightmare, ran clean program that build greatest teams in history. Positioned to take down the newly reconstructed conference power structure, something needed to be done. Enter the contract ***** over.

See, we thought everyone hated us because everyone did. That included our own administration. When they got Donna in, it was her duty to go for the kill. She did and here we are. Our only chance is they ***** up and hire the wrong, meaning a good, coach.

great post... but why are you not seeing what is right in your face ? the BOT and the Miami admin are getting EXACTLY
what they want. The optics of the "successful football years" is NOT the image they want is it ? The thug image and the
brawls and all the inner-city imagery. simple .... they have worked to methodically eliminate that image and having a
series of mediocre coaches that were really babysitters is the way they went about it. they want a "nice" football team
thats like a Cornell, or Princeton, not a bunch of brawling ***-kickers like Alabama.

Sounds like the makings of a great ESPN 30 for 30 episode:

"What if I told you that the people who hated the Miami Hurricanes football program the most, and did more to sabotage it as a national powerhouse, wasn't the NCAA, but the University of Miami's own administration and Board of Trustees?"

Could be that. Or....maybe Miami did want to be good at football at one point in time. They hired Lou Saban, who was an NFL head coach. Then they hired Howard, who was Bear Bryant’s OC, right before being Don Shula’s OC for the only undefeated team in NFL history.

It was after the antics of the Johnson era that UM decided to de-emphasize football. Nobody else took us down. We took ourselves down.

None of the people who were around in the Saban/Howard days are around today. Not in the athletic department, and not on the BOT.
