The Canes Stagger to the Finish vs Wake Forest..

- I still wonder if the Miami defense is better off playing more man coverage.

- The run game was there at times, but then it bogged down late. Mirabal is still probably looking for his best five.

- Damon Wilson, one really bad penalty on the roughing the passer, but he did make his presence felt in the second half consistently. He drew penalties and provided constant pressure.

- OK, a win is a win. But this is a win that shows that the Canes are still very much a work in progress on both sides of the ball.

Look, I'm not trying to make excuses for any of the issues we're having. We have issues and they may cost us down the line. But games like this happen to everyone. These are all games against .500 teams played by the eventual national champions. And I didn't think this game was at any of these levels. It was 31-7 in the 3rd.

2025: Indiana 27 Penn State 24
2024: Ohio State 21 Nebraska 17
2023: Michigan 31 Maryland 24
2022: Georgia 26 Missouri 22
2019: Clemson 21 UNC 20
....
2001: Miami 18 BC 7

OL and injuries need to improve. I think everything else can get us there if the OL can somehow find it's footing and we can survive long enough to get people healthy.

We need to get OJ and Lucas back at corner. I agree with K9, we need to somehow keep Fitzgerald and Dunnigan on the field as much as possible with their play. They are both playmakers. Both are only getting better with more experience too.

I think someone will overtake Chase Smith at some point at LB. Maybe Justin Scott and Moten were better last year due to how good Bain and Mesidor were. Bain and Mesidor were best DE tandem ever. That helps any DL.

We have a long ways to go on defense to be a NC contender and our injuries so far this year has been unreal. Hopefully it doesn't continue. They did step it up when it counted in the second half though. So kudos to them.

I don't think SJ should be starting at guard. We can do better there. I think we should play Congdon and Cantwell more. Guard play should be better. Luckily we don't play ND until Nov but i am concerned.

Offense just went in a shell in 2nd half tonight so can't judge them. They will be fine if they can even figure out the best 5 to play at OL.

I am concerned after watching tonight but a long ways to go still.

Good post. But also, Wake Forest is a +.500 team. 9-4 last season. They aren’t a bad team. Their QB is a gamer and they got two really good receivers.

Not an excuse but this wasn’t FIU out there.
 
We went really conservative with our 2nd half play calling. Like he didn’t trust the players we had in.

Is the book out on how to neutralize our offense is to blitz up the middle and jam the wr?

Our guards and center can’t block and mensah got hit a ton tonight

I agree, Wake will win some games this year. They're a typical ACC pain in the a** team.

My point was, go try and explain how the greatest football team of all time put up 12 offensive points, all FGs, on Boston College. Weird stuff happens to teams and everyone falls off a cliff on random weeks. This offense looked like a well oiled machine until it couldn't get a first down on multiple drives. It happens.

Game completely shifted on roughing call (thought it was very weak tbh) he pulled up didn’t take him to ground. Woulda been 31-7 our ball post a vicious hit from mo toure. My best buddy played OL for the giants. Told me there’s no game like fb in terms of momentum, it can literally choke you out. Gotta get healthy, I’d sit most everyone who’s nicked up next week. Gotta find the best five, I wonder if we wouldn’t be better off with McCoy inside again and cantwell at tackle. McCoy has done a nice job, but the interior is bad particularly 65
 
I don’t say this lightly….. I’m not worried. I feel more confident now than I did before and this game, that this team is winning out..

There is a **** ton wrong… zone coverage holes, interior of oline is weak, front 4 doesn’t get as much pressure as you’d like, tackling, bad coaching decisions rearing its ugly head, certain linebackers & their strengths vs weaknesses (along with situational rotations), and injuries.

I usually lean on the negative side, but winning the game the way they did with the defense stepping up, was pretty big despite the mistakes. This is the kind of game you need to have early on to really assess your deficiencies. This is not a top 5 team at the moment, but they will be.

They’ll get better, and heal.

Also sorry for Marty. Hope he heals up quick.

can we please leave the **** conference already? Refs threw horrible flags on both teams, mostly us and let them hold the entire game but **** this! even when you win by 13 you only get national doubt. lgtfoh
