I see lots of names and numbers. But what's the 411? Who are the top guys, who are we fighting mlb for?

Brian Gonzalez is much better than some listed and is expected to go early. Scout came to his house and told him 3rd-4th. Some mlb teams want him at first and others want him as a pitcher. Tops out around 91, consistently throws high 80s but his control is superb for his age.

The tigers currently have two Archbishop Mccarthy players on their roster, Nick Castenallos and Alex Avilla, don't be surprised if they try to pick up BigB too.

BigB is a 2014 commit btw

I don't want to see this staff recruit, get a commitment and than lose a kid to a MLB team. I much prefer the last two seasons of focusing on talented kids that will play college baseball. my2

They can all commit to UF or FSU, because odds are the majority of these kids will NEVER PLAY COLLEGE BASEBALL.

Smith and Chester are our top 2 recruits, ratings wise, and our 2 biggest threats to lose to the draft. Smith is a corner OF with speed and power, while Chester is a pure CF with plus plus speed. Chester is looking more likely to make it to campus. Gonzalez and Lepore are also possible top 5 round picks. Lepore has a low 90s fastball and good breaking stuff. Pimentel was rated a possible 2nd or 3rd rounder who was hitting 94 with his fastball, but he got injured last fall and will now enroll at UM.

Smith and Chester both seem like somewhat luxury additions to this team. With Abreu, Eusebio, and Heyward coming back, and Collins playing some outfield or moving out there full time we are pretty solid out there next year. I would love to get both in because from reading some about them they both look like pretty dynamic players that will help us right away. I'm much more worried about Gonzalez and Lesore making it down here.

These guys need to start realizing that now-a-days a lot of these college players make it to the MLB within 1 or 2 years of being drafted.

Unless they are getting selected in the first 3-4 rounds, it would benefit them to go to college.

Then again, it is a very difficult decision to turn down guaranteed $$$.

I hope we can get all these guys on campus.

Kiley McDaniel, at the FACA All-Star game:

Miami commit LHP/1B Brian Gonzalez solid 88-90 t91 with feel and three pitches as usual. College type guy but could impact as a freshman.

This is exactly the type of kids we should be spending our resources on. I want the A-Rod's to come to campus as well, but that's generally a pipe dream. Heck, the two least likely kids to make it to campus who did both were not the big impact guys expected (David Thompson and Harold Martinez).

Some good news, Kiley McDaniel reported that Justin Smith floated a ridiculous bonus demand (1.3 mil, mid 1st round money) and is almost certainly headed to college this fall, as he's just not a 7-figure player right now. He'd be a Collins/Abreu type talent if he made it here.

Draft starts tonight (1st and 2d rounds), but none of our recruits are likely to be picked. Tomorrow, rounds 3-10, will be the day to watch out for kids like Chester, Smith, Jones, Gonzalez, etc. Early Saturday (11-40th rounds) can also be concerning. Generally once a kid makes it past the first 10 rounds, they usually enroll.
