The Calm After The Storm

This was a reasonable and logical post.

So of course it will be trashed by the Mopes.

Well put by OP.

The clock mgmt was absolutely inexcusable, along w/ going for 3 when we were down two scores.

That’s y I said there’s plenty of blame to go around; but like the roster he took over under Taggart, it had holes. When Richt came, our roster had holes. We saw the improvements in 2016, just like you all saw ur improvements in 2018; but it wasn’t until yr 2 that it came to full fruition for both schools.

I’ll be honest, UO last yr was primed to go to the CFP, NO LESS than another NY6 bowl. Losing Verdell hurt, then losing Pittman, losing Flowe, KT5 being in and out, and I believe ya’ll lost a playmaker in the secondary, too. A lot of high end production hurt & showed the ***** in the armor.

We’ll be fine, but we need an infusion of talent. The most FRUSTRATING thing after this game is ppl forget that we were begging last yr for an infusion of talent. We’re rolling out practically the same team that needed an infusion of talent, but all of sudden, they were expecting a magic wand to come out. The overwhelming data shows it takes time.

What SC is doing thus far in the early stages is due to Riley bringing over an elite QB who he coached, an elite WR who he coached, an award winning WR, along w/ one of the most underrated RBs in all of CFB in Dye. It was an easy transition. But, that def is wobbly af, & so SC will get punched in the mouth soon.
That's my worry about USC is the trenches and especially the defense when they play another juggernaut big boy team. That's my biggest takeaway from last night is the physicality and play of the trenches it's game 3 and it seems his staff has that a strength already we were manhandling those boys last night. Then think of the commits and targets for this cycle and we can really take off there. Now receivers is another story lol

Plus, every one who knows football, knows it takes longer for offenses to come together when changing coaching staffs.
University of washington went 4-8 last year. Was 10th in the pac-12 in total offense. New head corch this year. 3-0. laid the wood to Michigan state and are 3rd in total offense nationwide so far. Small sample size yes but stop making excuses.

OK, my friends. Breaking News:

We lost.

Who would’ve known that a team who barely went 7-5 last yr, w/ a QB who really had only one real target that’s no longer here, would lose a game on the road in a hostile environment to a SEC team? I get the anger; there’s plenty of blame to go around this game:

-From The Coaching Staff: clock mgmt was atrocious, and play calls in the green zone (commonly referred to as red zone) was head scratching

-From The Players: The Special Teams unit was god awful, & it literally cost us the game. Poor tackling on a couple of drives led to A&M close to putting a final nail in the coffin. Those pesky drops that was reported in camp? Yeah, they came out at night, like The Freaks; and while the OL did well throughout the game, costly penalties took steam out the boat on several occasions.

Those are the facts; but, there appears to be another fact some refuse to accept. It’s a fact I stated on @LeedsCane podcast, it’s a fact that I created a thread on. The fact is, this team is good, but it’s not great. This team, this culture that has been riddled with bad evals, fit pieces, and an overall lack of winning is still here. Yet, some convinced themselves that just b/c a new staff w/ some hot names came on board, that would change this culture in one year; how?

I tried to tell u guys numerous of times stop comparing us to SC, why? B/c SC is the only game in town; they are So Cal’s team. SC have won a Nat’l title in the past 18 yrs, we haven’t. SC have won their conference several times in the past 18 yrs, we haven’t. SC have won multiple NY6 bowls in the past 18 yrs, we haven’t. Friends, let me be clear, & I need u all to truly understand this: The chit that’s talked about other schools, they’ve all faired better than us in the last 18 yrs.

Here’s the silver lining; a change have been seen:

-The OL is playing way better than we’ve seen in some time.

-Our RB room, while not 2001 worthy, has 3 guys who can get theirs w/ 2 of those RBs who are small in stature, but big in heart & effort

-Our defense, while filled w/ some holes, have been holding us down while the offense have been trying to find its sea legs.

We were in this game until the clock struck zero. There are no moral victories; the fact is, we did lose to a bad 8&4 team, and we can blame ourselves on several things, but that’s the point. As long as I can remember, this Miami Hurricanes team have shot themselves in the foot, & it’s from little things that snowball in to bigger issues. That’s culture, folks. That’s what u can’t account for on paper. Mario has been transparent this entire time, yet the reason you feel this vitriol is b/c despite what u saw from The Spring Game, despite what Mario continue to say, u saw us beat up on BCU & come out & smoke So. Miss in the 2nd Half. That stubborn 15-0 mentality crept in & now u’re disappointed faced w/ reality. That’s shame on u, not on them.

Listen, I’m not always right, but my post history shows I’m more right than wrong. I don’t get emotionally caught as most fanatics, I try to base things on facts (hence, y I provide current & historical stats/records, etc.) The fact is, TVD is missing his #1 target, Rambo. Our WR room is filled w/ 3rd down, chain movers, not play/difference makers that can stretch the field or game plan around. The defense has “some guys”, but that too is lacking play makers throughout.

We’ll win next week, against another poor G5 team, and I promise, we’ll see the 14-1 crowd rear it’s head, but when I said I see this team as an 8 win regular season team, I didn’t look at names on the roster, I looked at a change in culture. I looked at an offense that want to be ran v. personnel to run it.

If u’re calling for Gattis’ or Mario’s head after one defeat, that’s b/c u drank the Kool Aid as opposed to being reasonable in realizing that 80% of a roster that scraped by to go 7-5 is still here, while a big part of that production on O is gone. R-E-L-A-X; this is not a 1yr turn around; it’s a 2-3 yr joint. Our portal hits were not difference makers; it was depth guys. Also, remember this roster is still fairly young, where our best players are Sophomores, which means they too are still learning.

There’s a lot to look forward to, but at the same time, realize that calling every team on our schedule weak hasn’t meant chit in 18 yrs. Sit back, enjoy the process, criticize certain things, but don’t blow it up after one game. Lol. Stop sipping Kool-Aid; it’s bad for ur teeth & mental health.

400 yards of offense on a so called "great" defense. Our offense is good, but we shot ourselves in the foot every time in the red zone. We should've hung at least 24 on this team and only given up 10.
26 first down’s
Nearly 400 yards vs A&M loaded with blue chips on Defense
A QB who is adjusting to the system
Missed and blocked FG’s
Fumbled a Punt return on their field
7 or so dropped passes, several were drive killers and 1 ended the game

Still, Miami was a couple plays away from pulling it off. Shoulda, coulda, woulda, but this is part of the process to building a program. Growing pains happen to everyone.

The next two weeks will be used to fix a lot of these issues. We’ll be okay.

SC has a Lincoln Riley offense, that's going to attract a lot of talent as well, it's proven.

I see an upward trajectory. This team is headed in the right direction.
There were a lot of positives for sure. Our OL was much better than last year. We can finally pick up 3rd and short in the run game, run game over all is much better. Our defense is also much much improved.

Special teams was really bad but I think that can be turned around fairly quickly with better coaching and some personnel changes.

However, this passing offense is not going to get it done though and I’m worried it is not only a personnel problem but a fundamental problem with the scheme and Gattis offense. If that is case, we could be in floundering on offense for several more years. This offense needs to be fixed STAT, nobody is going to want to play in this slow plotting, boring offense that can’t manage to score TDs.

Just a matter of time, and they are still a LONG ways away up front, especially on O. They better fix it before they are playing in Madison, East Lansing etc. in Novembers in a couple years or ole Lincoln is going to need some stabilizer medication.

I think the reality check hit people a lot harder than they expected.

1. There is no magic playbook that Gattis is hiding and we don’t have the horses to run his offense at 100%.(A lot of posters said this when he was hired).

2. ALOT of poster have been warning people on how bad and young the WR is room. We actually got to see it during a game.

3. TVD is not the Heisman candidate that he has been hyped to be & last year system boosted his numbers.

It’s hard to see the positives after the lost but Mario has us further in the REBUILD than I expected by game 3.

I was ****ed last night because we lost that game more than 8&4 won it. After my Phins pulled out a nice comeback W today I find myself optimistic. Even though 8&4 suck, we usually **** down our leg and get embarrassed in these games (past decade +). I just doubled down and got a few more Clemson tickets. I think this team turns the corner and wins a big one at DV in November. I’ll be there with my crew for that Clemson upset.

We lost which sucks but I'm actually encouraged by what i saw. The defense and offensive line have vastly improved and the team is mentally tougher. Last year this is the typical 35-3 beatdown we see in these type of games. We have tape now to improve upon, Gattis and the WR's need to have a come to Jesus moment and make adjustments that adapt to the lack of deep threat talent at wideout.

I suspect that this offense will put up much better numbers up to the Clemson game simply because the defenses we'll be facing are a step down. We need to keep that in perspective and not get too high on this team prior to Clemson. This is where our staff needs to earn their salary and keep this team poised throughout the season.

I look at this season as a great opportunity to build this team up and rack up Ws. With this staff we should be able to go into the Clemson game at 9-1/8-2. In the Clemson game we have a great opportunity to showcase improvement and possibly take them down. We need to get back to work and keep improving throughout the season.
Chances of this team beating Clemson is very slim. I think Clemsons defense is going to make things really difficult for this offense.
The chances drop to zero if it is a prime time game. The Canes can’t get out of their own way in prime time games. With the exception of the ND game and they were extremely over rated, I don’t think they have won in 10 plus years.

A lot of the aforementioned is true; however, the defense was solid enough to win. The OL was solid enough to win. The qb play was atrocious. TVD not only telegraphed his passes, but led his receivers into the mouth of the defense with them getting hit again and again; moreover, I was disappointed with the playcalling and lack thereof, such as not going to the TE's more, especially, Arroyo, in lieu of not having Restrepo. Additionally, why did they go away from the hot hand of Franklin? Miami did not get into the end zone once with the defense giving them opportunities again and again in the 4th quarter. A&M didn't score again after the 3rd qtr score. Again, Steele and this defense played very well and good enough to not only belong on this stage, but win. Giving TVD the hook at this point may be severe; however, there should be accountability at every position. I'd at least give Garcia 1st team snaps as well and put Van Dyke on notice.

Let's see how good Michigan State are first before crowning them.

Those other two wins are against Portland and Kent State. I didn't even know they had football teams.
