Man thats ugly. But that 2018 class of Jennings, Steed, and Wilder really hurt us. Injuries killed that class. Then we followed up with Huff and Brooks....Brooks cant stay healthy and Huff we just cant figure out. At the time, getting Steed, Wilder, Huff and Brooks in two straight classes one would have thought we would have been cooking with grease but it just didnt pan out that way.

Our situation at LB is probably not nearly as bad as we think it is now that we have a DC and Strong preaching gap integrity.

Not sure a lot of folks realize how hard the LB's job is without the DL maintaining their gaps up front. Our LB's always look confused and slow to react because they don't even know what gap they are responsible for because we were running a freelancing defense here under Diaz.

The previous defense did put a lot of responsibility on the linebackers and you could immediately tell which guys had the mentality to handle it and which guys couldn’t think fast enough. There were certain guys who were better off just blitzing every down because they might accidentally run into the ball carrier.

I don't get hung up on star rating unless their high 4-5 especially at LB. I don't trust the evaluation websites. Go look at the guys playing LB in the NFL. There's a lot of guys rated 3-stars or below playing in the NFL. Many of them were better draft prospects than their higher high school prospect peers.

At least when it comes to LBs, It's not about the rating. It about the development.

The 2021 top 15 LB NFL Draft Prospects
1. Micah Parsons 5-star #5
2. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah 3-star #456
3 . Nick Bolton 3-star. #1114
4. Jamin Davis 3-star. #915
5. Zaven Collins 3-star #2142
6. Chazz Surratt 3-star. #419
9. Jabril Cox 2-star #3246 played FCS @ NDSU
10. Amen Ogbongbemiga 3-star #1479
12. Garret Wallow 3-star #890

LBs 2-6 were higher draft prospects than 5-star prospects in the top 15 #7 Dillan Mosley, and #11 Barron Browning.

Bad evals....I thought Brooks was a good eval but it ain't looking like that rt now. Let's see if it's the player or the coaching this upcoming season.

It's crazy because it appears to be an inexact science. Some of it on coaches, some of it on scheme, some of it on the players just not having it.
