The biggest concern for this FSU game is Beck..

Here's an easy exercise.

Imagine we're 2-2 right now with losses to ND and UF. It could easily be the case if Carson wasn't BAILED OUT by the rest of the team.

Against ND, Carson, under pressure, threw a terrible pass into coverage as the 2nd quarter was ending. It just so happened that CJ made an incredible catch AND the ND DB went braindead at the same time. It turned what could have been an INT and should have easily been at least incomplete into a TD.

Against UF, after he threw the pick, if the defense doesn't step up, we end up going DOWN 14-13. Defense bailed him out. Maybe we go on to win the game either way with our defense and run game, but it would have been despite Carson's bad game, not because of him.

How much would you hate Carson right now if all his stats and throws were exactly the same, but we were 2-2?

Up to this point, Carson has been serviceable. Completes a lot of passes, even though not great accuracy. Makes mostly good decisions. But he has had a tendency in the past to make bad decisions when under pressure and his accuracy isn't always the greatest. So a slightly off game or amazing DB play can lead to bad games for him. We only need him to be serviceable though. That's how this team is built..he has to make good decisions, easy throws, and throw the ball away. He just can't make the backbreaking turnover at the worst time (which is exactly what he did at UF AND almost did at ND if it weren't for an amazing CJ Daniels catch).

And when I watch him and observe him, I suspect he's the kind of guy that doesn't rally when bad things happen. His highs take him higher but his lows take him lower. He retreats in the face of adversity, not rises and leads..it's gonna take Anez, Fletcher, CJ, to keep Carson's head up if he has a bad game.

Let's hope he is the game manager we need and not think he needs to be a hero like Cam was.
What a terrible thought experiment. This is like a Bizarro version of cognitive behavioral therapy that gives you depression and anxiety.

"Hey, let's create a counterfactual in which the good things that really happened actually just turned out badly."

You do you, man- just preferably way the **** away from me.

A minor thing perhaps, but I did not love Beck's facial expressions of frustration and anger during the Florida game. Seemed over the top to me. Body language can be revealing sometimes. But I'll just hope it's a one off and not a reflection of agitation inside his head.

My biggest worry is that FSU will literally go for every fourth down, trying to take possessions away from us. I can see them going for every fourth and short (2 yards or less from their 35 and up). So, we have to put them at 4th and 3+ to keep them from going. They are gonna pull every trick available, so we need to be ready.

I was reading that 247 piece about this many starts are our players had on the road. Looking back at his performances on the road against big time opponents. I am also on broad with this concern. He hasn’t played very good on the road.

We lost the games. Your argument is that 22-14 shouldn't be mocked? Nice one.

You were also told the portal was not sustainable, Miami was going to the SEC and B1G and 100% going back to Nike... same heroes were wrong on all 3...

No we were missing so many of our good players in both games, BUT you specifically highlighted the 2 bowl games losses.

We lost by 6 with Jacurri Brown playing his 1st snaps of the season, and we moved 2 CBs to S, and had no backup DEs available, and lost Fletcher on the first drive.

Cam Ward didnt play the 2nd half, and we lost by 1.

You threw in those 2 games to try and bolster your argument.

FSU’s backers are pitiful in coverage. Really, really bad. They’re gonna have to pick their poison. If they wanna play heavy to load the box and stop the run, then their backers are gonna have to cover in the middle of the field and in the flats. If they don’t, good luck stopping the run.

Beck will have plenty of opportunities to complete passes to open receivers.

Beck has a history of cooking zone coverage and FSU doesn't have anyone who can cover Toney so FSU might get burnt on short and intermediate stuff.

Miami's vertical passing game and Beck's deep ball remain to be proven.

I just don't get it.

He wasn't a liability in the Notre Dame game. He wasn't a liability against USF. He had a bad game against UF.

Facts. And his bad game was in the pouring rain where our receivers were struggling to get open ... also because of the pouring rain, hard to run routes in slop.

Just remember that Cam was not able to complete a TD pass last year against fsu…just saying

Beck at least for me is not a big concern at all. He has played in several big games to say the least. My biggest concern is the coaching staff especially MARIO. His away record at UM is 7-14 and he is the ultimate underachiver with his UM teams away. I hope he makes the right coaching decisions and does not play conservative along with Dawson. GO CANES

Those two games were part of the record. We lost because we couldn't stop either team. Which would have been why within the first 3 years people mocked being tough and physical. Losing to Rutgers for the first time in our history is mock worthy. And Iowa State -- we were not bro ball enough to run it in from inside the 10 to win the game... So yeah, point stands.

It is also ******* FSU Game Day and people got up feeling dangerous trying to dunk on posters about the last 3 years -- when they were correct.
Beat FSU!

My concerns:

Procedure penalties
Tempo of fsu D and depth of DL
Tempo leading to big plays on broken coverage
Beck forcing passes that aren’t needed when the game plan is ball control and dink/dunk for 7 min scores

Staples the FSU fan who likes the matchup for FSU's offense has this say about FSU's defense facing Beck

Well I know myself I was a lil worried about him being so busy with that chick and not being around his teammates enough in spring. Hindsight I still would've liked to see that differently. BUT I have zero concerns about him now. He has a professional approach to the game and he processes things well for the most part. I see the people who have concerns about when you have to move the pocket on him somewhat. But with our line that's minimal. People who wanna complain will always find a reason. **** em.
See, that's a legitimate concern. Fretting over statistics and injuries and trying to claim he was straight garbage because his receivers played like they had boxing gloves on is another thing.

Same people were certain Cam was a fumble machine. Spoiler: they're not really fans.
