The biggest concern for this FSU game is Beck..

For a few reasons.

He puts the ball in harms way too much. Turnovers on the road get the fans going.

He is coming off back to back games throwing INT's. You could tell the coaches pulled back offense in UF game, because they were losing faith in his ability to throw ball past 10 yards.

Another reason, he has thrown INTs in over 70% of road starts in his career.

In 2023 he was 6 TDs and 3 INTs in true road games. He threw a INT in 3 of the 4 road games.

In 2024 he was 3 TDs and 7 INTs in true road games. He threw a pick in 3 of 4 true road games.

FSU is going to sell out vs. the run, and try to force Beck and passing game to beat them.

Beck and WRs will have opportunities to make plays, they need to make them.

I am not worried about Miami really in any other capacity for this game other than the QB. If he plays well and protects the football Miami will win.

Both of his INT’s (I’m not counting the tipped ball), came when he was moving up and being pressured. And in both cases, he was off target when on the move. I think the adjustment for Beck is to either run, throw it away, or even take the sack.

Beck has to remember this is not UGA or UM 2024. He does not have to be a hero. Take the safe throws, and then go over the top when we have 1-on-1 on the outside like the passes to Moore and Marion (PI against ND). He doesn’t need the 20 yard throw over the middle into coverage.

If they sell out on the run, Beck will pick them apart with no pressure and easy throws.

My concern would be if the game is tight and Beck has to make big throws under pressure.
This is when his experiences with UGA better pay off. Last season they were down early and often, and Beck had to throw a lot in second halves to bring them back. Of course he was often the reason they were down early.

Don't forget, in his first 6 games Cam played UF/USF/VT/Cal and had 5 INTs against them.

If we're going to play offense worried about Beck throwing INTs then this team isn't going very far. Guys who sling it throw INTs. The skill is to know when to take those chances and when to check down.

What you don't want is 200 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs. If that's how we handle Beck then whatever we paid him should have been spent elsewhere.

The first two INTs were things that happen and not necessarily his fault. One was clearly the receivers fault. The second he was hit while throwing. The third was a great play really and it was raining so the ball had less zip on it. Before the last game he was leading college in completion % and set the all time record at UM for 15 straight completions.

I also think FSU wants to keep everything in front of them and after the UF game and after the Virginia game we will be focusing on short routes.

The only issues I see with this game is our ability to contain a running qb and staying clean with penalties on offense. You check those and we win by 2 tds min.

IMO they can sell out against the run and still won't stop it.

Last year (obviously a different DC) they made sure our passing game wouldn't gash them and held us to our worst pass game of the year, but we did whatever we wanted on the ground.

Something will give. They don't have the horses to hang around without breaking.

We beat them with Malik Rosier, N'kosi Perry, Jarren Williams, and **** near beat them with Emory Williams. I sincerely believe Carson Beck is a better quarterback than any of those.
I Dont Believe You Will Ferrell GIF

Exactly. They can not stop both. They aren't built for that. They are built to beat inferior teams with inferior talent. In Alabama's case, a team that thought they could just show up and win, with a QB that made terrible decisions at critical moments. If Miami doesn't beat Miami, FSU sure as **** won't.

I'm not understanding the fear y'all have. FSU literally has no answer for our OL or DL.

I haven't been this sure we were gonna beat them since 2020.
stats are skewed because of the two cupcakes they played ... context matters ... they caught bama with no tape ... ran it up on two pay for play games then lose to virginia giving up 200 on the ground ... cmon now

I think it is fair to point out that Beck has a tendency to put the ball in danger when he is under pressure. I don’t think the assertion that the staff lost confidence in him against UF is fair. They simply saw that our D was controlling Florida’s Offense so if you can run the ball and win, why wouldn’t you do that on a wet field?
Imagine the response of the fan base if Dawson had Beck throwing the ball aggressively and turnovers occurred leading to a Florida win…
Fans would have been losing their minds and stating the obvious that we could have won the game by running the ball right at Florida and taking advantage of their depleted DL. I think the passing game will continue to improve as Beck and the receiving corps have finally been getting some reps together.

On the pick vs UF, he had a checkdown or could have taken 5 yards by ground. Easy to correct in film study and discussion with OC.

I’m convinced some of you just NEED someone to crap on, data be damned. Carson Beck is at the bottom of the list of things that concern me. He’s an experienced, battle tested QB that has performed well in big games. Even with his “Struggles” last year, he was an above average QB. His floor is still **** good, especially if things like weather and protection are favorable.

Dude hasn’t played a game in optimal conditions all year, and has still performed well.
