The BBBA would like to Thank The U. Of Houston...

Guys you know we are not getting Butch, right?

Not sure if this is a genuine knowledge-based statement or inductive reasoning since the firm hiring. If it's the latter I'd say probably right, unfortunately. If it's the former I'll be pretty crushed.

Hard to let a potential candidate be reduced to a "fall back" option in the media. So yeah, that ship may have sailed.

Guys you know we are not getting Butch, right?

Seriously?

There's been more doo-doo thrown up against the wall, I can't recall what color the wall was to start with.

It goes like this..

UM wants to best coach possible that meets their standards...

..problem is a lot of coaches have a negative perception of the job and those perceptions are...
.....low paying
.....not committed to investing in resources
.....want a clean cut, well spoken Al Golden type coach

UM's Response
.....Fire Al Golden during the season and leak a fake rumor on how it cost UM 4 million more
.....Leak they are willing to pay 4 million
.....Leak Butch Davis is a candidate
.....Leak they are going to hire a big time coach

What happens

....Not additional cost to fire Golden during or after the season
....Now it has gone down to 3 million
....Now Butch Davis is a backup candidate
....So far we know they are interested in Strong, Shula, Mario and Butch as a backup

I just don't have confidence UM is going to do the right thing. I they they are using the PR move of willing to hire Butch to draw interest from those who doesn't think UM is serious.

I have no inside information but rather an assumption based off of what has leaked. I have no issue with the hiring of a firm.

Thanks for the reply.

I had to bite down to keep from throwing up.

This really sucks. You can't trust these dumbasses at UM to do ANYTHING right. Gave Golden a big extension - the last of a string of big mistakes.

And all this time, I thought these firms pretty much vetted coaches, extensive background checks, verify all reference claims, and be able to initiate contact to determine interest.

Again I have no inside information so my opinions are just based on what I have seen. The firm is fine but why hasn't their been leaks with more notable coaches? It is almost as if UM doesn't know what a good coach looks like. The firm is more about having resources. Things should heat up over the next few weeks and the firm can research coaches and help do leg work for UM. The firm may find coaches they think are a good value but UM is doing the hiring.

If they are looking at coaches who have jobs then it would be very very bad if the firm leaked their names. This happens in executive job searches all the time.

If UM phucks this up and ignores the obvious right choice to hire Strong, Mario, or a midmajor one year wonder --- there will be a mass exit by a significant percentage of the fan base.

three duds in a row is all that's allowed.....not four.

He will not stay for 3 million. Still in play

Houston have played this pretty smartly - they've made Herman make a decision.

He's been rewarded for a good season with a decent pay rise. If he stalls signing it then you know he's looking elsewhere and you can start your coach search.

Truth.

I started a thread stating Houston knew he was leaving. This is a great move by Houston to show that they are interested in being a big boy school. Herman is already their highest paid coach, ever ... $3MM knocks it out of the park, as well as increasing his staff pool.

This move definitely puts the pressure on Herman, and allows them to start their search fro his replacement.

And they're also showing the next coach they will reward success!

For continuity sake, I wouldn't be shocked to see them promote Orlando or Applewhite to HC.
