I find it hard to believe Matthew's is going to take less to go play for the Aggies.

This whole recruitment is starting to feel weird to me, which is how I was feeling last year. Makes you wonder...
Yeah I agree with you on that; Gaby takes the claim further which reads as incredulous to me.

6th ring pointed out that a difference of high 5 figures or low 6 figures is too low for the current deficit UMiami’s offer has to A&M; which, although i made an arbitrary range, I was under the assumption that whatever the difference is that it was in the financially negligible amount from the Matthews’ perspective. That doesn’t appear to be the case.

That said, i view David Folorunsho as a more important prospect for us; and it ain’t over for any player until the fat contract is signed and commitment is made public. Now we wait. Heart of recruiting szn rn until late August.

Pete is a ******* ***** and anyone that listens to him, knows nothing about football because Pete knows nothing about football. His only claim is he pretended to be an agent for a little while, and I use the word pretend because he’s not an agent anymore so clearly he wasn’t ******* successful at it. Dudes a punk and doesn’t know **** about the game. Anyone that doesn’t believe me, go listen to last Summer‘s podcast where he’s **** on our defensive line and you’ll see right then and there, this kid doesn’t know crap about football and he never ate crow on it because he’s a head in the sand idiot.
Every time he says a single thing about Cam Ward it’s insane…

There is a lot of smoke out there, which is why I'm still confident it will be the Canes

I know they get good info but it's from the Miami Staff point of view. I am very confident that we are not making a bigger offer for him as of right now and a secondary issue is the LT vs RT but the money is most important in that recruitment.
LT vs RT is literally zero difference. And the NFL won’t care if you have the “traits” they view as being a LT fit even if you always played RT. If that is even a consideration in their process it’s truly a dumb one. **** I can even make an argument given he’s coming in a year after Cantwell, that he COULD come here with the plan of 2yrs at RT and then a year at LT (which honestly is dumb, but possible) which would be an even larger positive for the NFL than only playing one side….

I also agree that there Is very little chance we are the higher bidder for Mathews than A&M. I fully doubt this.

This is why I said @DMoney shojkd talk with his contacts at TexAgs and see what they think of his NIL offer. Cause just getting info purely from our staff always has them more confident in April/May in all recruits than ends up turning out to be. And I imagine NIL offer is a big part of that.

I don’t blame MJC either. I appreciate you sharing your side of the story. Idk, i couldn’t see him changing his mind to say LSU, this late in the process, if they outbid A&M. Seems like he has been in between A&M and Miami for months now.

I trust D$ and just wanted to state that not everyone sees the recruitment as a money-driven decision; and his comment didn’t insinuate we outbid A&M.

Gaby, on the other hand, did. View attachment 361441

But the staff would have to know if there offer is bigger than a&m or not. And they are saying that he is taking less to go to a&m. So either the info people have gave you isn’t accurate or the kids agent/team lied about what a&m is offering

Smoke for Matthews?
I was more saying that there are a lot of conflicting stories in this recruitment. He went from basically a Miami lock, then you heard he was picking A&M for culture reasons. Then there were rumors that Texas A&M dropped an absolute bag—now he might be going there for less money? It just doesn’t add up, which is why I think it’ll be the Canes at the end of the day. Just my gut feeling.

Brah like i posted yesterday this is the recruitment where we always are on the other end. We move in on a target that lives in a local powerhouse area. They up the pressure and last minute they stay home. We need this here. Matthews, leaving sets the tone we been fighting since Mario came in. Local #1 recruit. Lost Innis, good thing, JJ....awful , Toney and Bain helped alot. But we need to turn the tide completely. Even back to Shemar Stewart from the salvage class and he ended up being a 1st rounder. We cannot take all good players from the area, but the best ones need to be canes in high majorities

TrumpyCane thinks the fact he still hasn't even announced a commit date is telling or any indication he's close to it

If A&M was a lock I'm sure theyd want a commit ASAP

You are 100% correct on the LT vs RT, but sadly HS players and the people around them don't always see reality. There are egos involved and pride but yeah, it's so silly. I can tell you from coaching for 3 decades that the same nonsense goes on at the HS level too. We can tell them all we want that colleges will project them at a certain position and that won't be impacted by what they do in HS, but they still will tantrum over it. Not everyone is like that but enough that it causes a headache on a yearly basis.

Yeah, I don't know, the person I talked to said AM is more as of right now and he wants Mark to be a Cane very badly, but he has no impact on it at this point.
AM wants to beat us for every recruit after we have beat them on the field the last few times. And when I say AM, I'm referring to the big money men. I don't think they will lose out on this because of money. If Mark ends up staying close to home, that will be the deciding factor but it won't be that AM gets significantly outbid for him. But I mean at some point, both teams have a limit on what they are willing to pay to get him. It can't be an infinite auction.

We're about to enter the heart of recruiting season for the next three months. Here is the latest from the Hecht:

- While Texas A&M should be considered the favorite, Miami remains in contact with OT Mark Matthews (St. Thomas Aquinas). The Canes are also in contact with OT Oluwasemilore Olubobola (Jersey City, NJ). Both of those situations could move fast.

- In terms of the big name guys, communication is particularly strong with CB Gabe Osborne (Oklahoma City, OK) and DT David Folorunsho (Chicago, IL).

- One name trending for the Canes that the staff loves- DT Ezekiel Ayangbile (Houston, TX). He is the son of former Pro Bowler Duane Brown.

- The Canes are looking for a second TE to pair with Demarcus DeRoche (Cardinal Gibbons). Things have cooled with Anthony Cartwright (Detroit, MI) and Jaxon Dollar (Charlotte, NC) remains a longshot. One name to know- 6'5, 220-pounder Jordan Karhoff (Columbus, OH).

- Ty Keys (Poplarville, MS) and Brennen Lacey (Dallas, TX) remain the names to know at running back.

- Two hyper-athletic, multisport names at LB that have Coach Hetherman's attention: AJ Randle (Raleigh, NC) and Jarrell Chandler (Knoxville, TN).

- The Canes hit at West Boca last year with Javian Mallory, and are looking to go back to the well. DT Jamar Thompson remains a strong option, and the staff loved their in-person view of CB Loia Valade, who moved to South Florida from Tennessee. He is a legit 5'11, 180 with verified 4.4 speed. Keep an eye on that name.

- The Canes continue to big-game hunt at DE. All the top names remain in play, with Jabarrius Garror (Mobile, AL) recently joining the mix. They are looking to make a splash at this spot.
Do we just hate South Florida kids at this point

To me
When it comes to dts yea
it’s one position where it’s much more rare to play beyond your rankings
It happens but you can’t keep banking on being an outlier
There's like 2 or 3 five star DTs each season. I'm not sure if I agree with "it’s one position where it’s much more rare to play beyond your rankings." Could be true; might not be. I'm not going to spend the time to research it because that isn't the point. The point is that it is REALLY RARE to land a five star DT, since there are 20-40 schools shooting for those same 2 or 3 players each season.

Caleb Banks was the first DT off the board in this past draft. He was a mid 3 star. Peter Woods was the next and he was a composite high four star, but was a 5 star on at least one site, so we can count him as a five star. Kayden McDonald went next in the 2nd round. He was a 4 star and was ranked in the 260's. Christen Miller was next and was a blue chip 4 star (#100 +/-). Lee Hunter was next - blue chip four star (#80). Five guys drafted in the first two rounds. One borderline five star, two blue chip 4 stars, a lower four star and a 3 star. Safe to say 2 our of those 5 played beyond their ranking.

Yes, this is a small sample size. I think your premise of five star or bust is not realistic, viable, doable or necessary. That's not to say we should look for 3 stars only and "coach 'em up." It's simply to say that tying a noose around our necks cuz we missed a couple five stars ain't it either.
