We're about to enter the heart of recruiting season for the next three months. Here is the latest from the Hecht:

- While Texas A&M should be considered the favorite, Miami remains in contact with OT Mark Matthews (St. Thomas Aquinas). The Canes are also in contact with OT Oluwasemilore Olubobola (Jersey City, NJ). Both of those situations could move fast.

- In terms of the big name guys, communication is particularly strong with CB Gabe Osborne (Oklahoma City, OK) and DT David Folorunsho (Chicago, IL).



- One name trending for the Canes that the staff loves- DT Ezekiel Ayangbile (Houston, TX). He is the son of former Pro Bowler Duane Brown.



- The Canes are looking for a second TE to pair with Demarcus DeRoche (Cardinal Gibbons). Things have cooled with Anthony Cartwright (Detroit, MI) and Jaxon Dollar (Charlotte, NC) remains a longshot. One name to know- 6'5, 220-pounder Jordan Karhoff (Columbus, OH).



- Ty Keys (Poplarville, MS) and Brennen Lacey (Dallas, TX) remain the names to know at running back.

- Two hyper-athletic, multisport names at LB that have Coach Hetherman's attention: AJ Randle (Raleigh, NC) and Jarrell Chandler (Knoxville, TN).



- The Canes hit at West Boca last year with Javian Mallory, and are looking to go back to the well. DT Jamar Thompson remains a strong option, and the staff loved their in-person view of CB Loia Valade, who moved to South Florida from Tennessee. He is a legit 5'11, 180 with verified 4.4 speed. Keep an eye on that name.



- The Canes continue to big-game hunt at DE. All the top names remain in play, with Jabarrius Garror (Mobile, AL) recently joining the mix. They are looking to make a splash at this spot.

 

Coming off our best season in decades and laying turds on the trail. Make it make sense.

He and his family are approaching it from a mindset that NIL doesn't exist and its 5 years ago and then what decision would he make. He knows he will be compensated no matter where he goes, but its not a highest bidder mentality.

He said we have a high offer. We can be 50-250k lower, hypothetically, than A&M and still have a high offer that isn’t undercutting his worth.

His point is to state that Matthews doesn’t just need Mario to find an extra 400k or whatever figures is proper & necessary to secure his commitment. That is a distinction from MJC.

No, I am telling you after speaking to someone I trust close to the scene at STA, that this process for him is basically going to come down to a highest bidder for the win. Mark knows that he is an elite player and has a great work ethic, so he is comfortable going to any of the schools on the list.
And sorry, but we are not the highest bidder right now and it's not a difference of 50-250K.
And MJC took a much larger offer and I dont blame him. Its a lot of money and RB lives are very short, especially someone like him who carries a lot of weight on every run.

Given that Hetherman's specialty is LBs and his resume as a DC, we werent landing this kid. I guess the other schools do have strong positives as well. At the end of the day, I would ove Henderson in this class but Im not losing sleep over an LB.

He is a great player and a great kid also. I agree with you on all you said. I don't think he is the best LB in the country, but he is a top one, but yeah, his friendship with DeAnthony is a huge draw to Miami as they are tight, but the family is approaching this in a very businesslike way and not letting emotions make a decision.
I don't think we are out of it yet though, but our percentage is low right now.

I don't think you're dumb, I think that the way you are framing the family's thought process makes them seem, at best, misguided and in reality pretty stupid. I actually appreciate you sharing it, my bad on the phrasing.

I know they get good info but it's from the Miami Staff point of view. I am very confident that we are not making a bigger offer for him as of right now and a secondary issue is the LT vs RT but the money is most important in that recruitment.

I find it hard to believe Matthew's is going to take less to go play for the Aggies.

This whole recruitment is starting to feel weird to me, which is how I was feeling last year. Makes you wonder...
