The Athletic: Why is Miami mired in mediocrity?

We're mired in mediocrity because the fans don't have enough faith in the coaches. There is too much criticism and negativity. We're losing recruits because of the bad attitude of the fanbase. It's not just the team cultcha that has to change, it's the fan cultcha too. It should have been obvious at the beginning of the season that we were a 2 win team. Rambo alone was worth 5 wins last year, so losing him was massive. If anything, the triumvirate of Cristobal/Gattis/Steele has EXCEEDED expectations by winning 4 games. Canes fans need to show some appreciation.

That 7-5 run last year could've easily have been 4-8. That NC State, Pitt, GT run was won by a combined eight points and TVD played out of his gourd—a 20 touchdown / 3 interception ratio and threw for almost 2,200 yards final six games of the season (and over 300+ yards each game). They yeoman effort out of Van Dyke, Harley and Rambo was the difference between 7-5 and 2-10.

Absolutely- like I said, this was a 2 win team. Maybe even a 0 win team. MTSU isn't a pushover. They are a force to be reckoned with in the Directional School Conference.

1. Soft players from County Club Manny era where they could skip practice or miss curfew and start games—and they're now dealing with a hard-*** alpha who has a boot up their *** and they're not responding.

2. See the answer to the last question.

Gattis is a dud and he has to go, but fact remains Mario thought (or at least hoped) he had more under the hood than he did and fact remains he didn't. This program, has been a 7-5 **** for 16 seasons and this is indeed the bottom-out season from two decades of dumpster fire football.

Hard *** alpha = Can’t resolve issue between his OC and QB Coach….

🤔

lol.
Had to read this twice. I didn’t realize you were being sarcastic on the first read,
At first I thought you were being serious.

Heard on some podcast, it's more than $2M. Think they said he has a 3 year contract.
If there is one thing this program is good at is flushing money down the toilet in buyouts.
I don't think Mario has any choice at this point, just from a recruiting standpoint, I don't see how he can keep him.

If and that’s a big if in my mind Gattis does get let loose whatever we owe him will be reduced by whatever his next contract is and him and his theophy will be picked up by some unsuspecting AD/HC out there..

I really do think the Hurricanes, and possibly, the Hard Rock is cursed lol. **** just doesn’t make sense. Or maybe it’s like my homeboy, a UGA fan, said.

“The city of Miami is just too fun, exciting, thriving, and full of hoes for these kids to be focused on just football. You have to live in a butt-**** city like Tuscaloosa, Clemson, Athens, or any other country *** place to be that focused on playing football. I really think that’s the issue with the hurricanes.”
You think they don't haul in hoes by the truck load for the players in Tuscaloosa, Clemson and Athens?

It doesn't take a Weatherman to see which way the wind blows:
Miami is Mired in Mediocrity because of the Curse of the Orange Bowl.

I love when people use this argument. Who gives a **** if we "could've easily gone 4-8." WE DIDN'T.

TVD played great bc he was put in a position to play well. It's not the effort from TVD, Rambo, and Harley that's the key here.

Its the trash offense and play calling.

You think those 3 in this system would still be great if they "gave good effort."

Hypothetical scenario smoothbrains on this site.

Back in the glory days of 58 home win streak and our NC and all .
Every so often as this all started to faded away I thought sometime along the way going forward we’d have to pay the dues for our successful reign.

I don’t know it just would hit me every so often that if we didn’t nurture and respect all these glory years that once we let them go there GONE and the price to get it all back would be harder then we could ever imagine.

I don’t know if any of the ole folks here whom witness these days of glory ever thought the same thoughts?

GOCANES
And we dropped the ball…

We were also 7 points from being 10 - 2.

Why is it that people always try and point out the negative without posting the positive?

You are what your record says you are.
