The Athletic: Sam Leavitt possibly to Miami or TTU

Leavitt is such a no brainer for me. Hes a playmaker. A true Dual threat QB rarely has the completion numbers yall want, but they bring other aspects to the game. The fact he could pull on read options would help our smash mouth run game a lot.

My concerns for Leavitt are only:

1. The injury
2. At ASU, they run a wide open offense with a lot of space usage. He won't get that here. It would be limiting one of his abilities which is to create in space with his legs.

I don't see the mechanics to justify the upside. His elbow is low, his footwork doesn't exist, it's all gaming and random.

If he wasn't from Miami, he wouldn't be talked about on here.
The mechanics are supposedly a reason why we were cool on him as a recruit but he’s a 68% career passer with a weird throwing motion so it’s clearly not affecting him that much.

He’s also improved this year while Sellers and Leavitt both regressed as passers

Regardless of whoever Miami goes after, I would prefer a passer who can run over a runner who can pass. I mean, if we’re going to go with a below average passer because he’s athletic, just move Toney to quarterback full time.

Are those numbers supposed to prove Bailey is a take? Again, what are we doing here?
hall of fame game missed the point GIF

He is from Miami tho and is someone we have a pre-existing relationship with multiple years left who with 24 touchdowns on the year has proven to be a quality ACC starter. Not saying he’s ‘the guy’ but it makes sense we’re looking at him.

Programs are spending huge money on coaches this year, I’d expect that will come with more aggressiveness in the portal. They’ve seen what us, Oregon with Gabriel, Nix, and Moore and now IU have done. I expect more teams will be looking to imitate it and the bidding with continue to get more competitive

Imagine teams having to worry about him and Toney. What a nightmare for defensive coordinators.

Whoever it is I hope the evals are in, NIL negotiations with agents begun and we get it done the moment the portal opens.
