The 2 biggest problems on this team

IMO ST is the biggest issue. Not even D1caliber. Shanks, missed FG/xtra points, punt coverage issues. Not even better than last years monstrosity. Hartley, super TE coach and recruiter, but an abomination of a ST coach. I will say Our punt returns have gotten better

1. OLINE- This group is so unathletic. The best athlete is Scaife with Boulware a distant 2nd. Donaldson has to play guard. He has no chance at Tackle against any team that has athletes at DE. He is too big and slow and he really isn't even a dominate guard but at least the unit would be better with him there all the time. We should never have 78, 77, 62 and 55 out there at the same time, thats like having 4 slugs. 2 out of the 4 are getting beat on any given play.
2. The Punt team.- We won the game because of our defense and Punt return team and almost lost because our OLINE and Punt team. I can't go with a blanket statement about all specials being bad.

1. QB
2. O-Line

1. I think Perry is the answer to solve problem #1. 4TD/0 Int against even a weak FSU team is still elite. Looks like we found the answer here as he is a big improvement over Rosier.

2. This one is trickier. Part of the problem is that in 2015, Fat Al(and just about everybody else) knew he was going to get fired and as such had a hard time putting together what is today's senior class. I remember him flying around the nation looking for O-lineman because his excuse was that SoFla didn't have that many prospects at the time. In 2015 we technically signed 7 offensive lineman although Kendrick Norton ended up playing defense. Of those signees Gauthier has been the best and ST. Louis has been serviceable but the rest are not UM caliber.

Our biggest problem is at both tackle positions. Hopefully Scaife learns quick and maybe in the future Herbert can actually contribute.
Otherwise hope we sign Evan Neal and get Tarquin healthy because without serviceable tackles we will struggle against elite pass rushing defensive ends like Burns.

Tarquin isnt a guy that will be ready to play right away. Lot of work needed.

This. The OL needs improvement, but it is slowly getting better. Special teams is an abomination right now. We would have won 28-7 with even a Group of five ST's.

Perry had a wake up call yesterday but still capaitalized with short fields. Def looked uncomfortable all game and the OL def played a part. He did miss some open throws but made some nice ones too. He will get better as he goes on and FSU will be the best d and most athletic d he faces all year.

Special teams is a disaster and OL as well. Hartley needs to be taken off special teams and Miami needs to go out and find a new punter cuz these two guys aren’t the answer. Not sure what the **** happened on that chip shot by Baxa but my confidence with his has diminished.
I said this more than a week ago ... got raked over burning coal.

Biggest problems are offensive play calling and special teams.

This ol can be servicable if asked to do the correct things. This isnt an ol that needs to be zone blocking. Its laughable to recruit Navaughn Donaldson and the other sloths they recruit and STILL do for this clas (2019) and then ask them to move laterally alot. I mean if your going to do that you should be after smaller agile types.

Richt calls the predictable pistol formation run EVERY first down. He ran a creative run play earlier in the game where he sent Thomas in motion and ran it back the other way...but he never brought it back. Shoot i would like to bring in double tight more and choc and see if we can run straight at guys the rest of our schedule. Choc is good for 4 yds it looks like on the dive...but a good mix of that could be solid. Even bringing in another lineman like Boulware with Jordan instead of Mallory. I dont know thats just me though.

It doesnt hurt to call a sweep or a toss every now and then...we kinda ran it to kill the game with Homer

Special Teams is the biggest problem. I feel like OL is second but has potential to be fixed. We need to bring in a Coach for Special teams. I'm not sure who coaches them but they need improvement drastically.

Samford put 525 yards on those bums. The biggest issue is OC and its not close, maybe ineptitude of STs makes it close. The scheme is awful and the playcalling in that scheme is equally horrendous. Its a grab bag (thanks Lu) of crap.

Makes every individual unit/player look worse then they really are, especially damaging to the OL and QB.

3 Biggest Problems for this team

1 Jon Richt as QB coach
2 Mark Richt as play caller
3 Special Teams

and two out of those three aren't going to get any better. Can only hope for dad to do for son, what Don Shula did for David
convince someone else to hire him as an OC and save face

#1 Thing wrong with team is the offense
#2 The play calling
#3 A coach that the school pays 4mill a year blaming the players because his offense doesn't produce.
Alot of coaches do more with less talent, and less time

Specials has been a mixed bag under Richt.

Punt returns and coverage units have been good (except for the meltdown against FSU). We’ve had decent return numbers, and I think zero turnovers in 2+ seasons. Feagles just doesn’t have the nerves to be a big-time punter, it seems. He’s the slugger who’s always hitting homeruns when the team is up or down 8-0.

When it’s not a pressure situation, Feagles booms the ball. As soon as it’s tense and we’re backed up, he shanks it.

Jury is still out on Baxa. He hasn’t been a disaster, but he’s not nails like some of our other kickers have been (we’ve strangely had solid kickers throughout our downturn).

Kickoffs and kick returns have sucked, though.

OL deserves its own thread.

Scaife
Boukware
Gauthier
Dinaldson
St Louis

Problem temporarily solved until next year. That’s our best 5. Stop rotating in scrubs like Jahair Jones.

That line can and will protect Perry

and that's the problem. All of those players are part of that 2015 recruiting class. We just have to recruit our way out of this problem in an area that is not exactly known for producing top flight O-Lineman. They have to hit their recruiting targets or else we are in big trouble.
And I'll add this. The OL are the one positions that take the longest to develop. Sure there are the incredible talents that can start as FR and SO's but that is not the average.

I was thinking about this, i don't think the scheme is bad, i think Richt play calling is erratic. There are times when i feel like was too pass happy last season especially with Rosier. This season with Perry i think he is calling with a mind of not to have him make big mistakes. If we had more first down throws Perry would have gone deep more and probably backed up FSU defense, not only with his throwing ability but also with his ability to pick up yards with his legs. We called a timid game even while we were behind.

One thing Golden did when he was here, we had good offensive plans v FSU, a function of Kaaya being a smart QB but our stretch running plays i think suits our athletes. I think the play where DJ gets horse collared is what im talking about. It worked and its like we never tried it again. I wanna see more formations, and we did see motion v FSU but its a easy way for a young QB to identify coverages. Lets see more of that. Also, where is the ACE double TE. That's a great formation for slowing down pass rushes and create miss matches as they will likely play that with base D and if they don't u should have numbers running it. Im sure these coaches know these things i just don't understand why we not doing it more. I don't know if they are just saying lets keep it simple, keep down the penalties and TOs and win with fundamentals.

As for the ST, the guy coaching it is approaching No D territory.
