We have to be honest. Our wins have come against some really bad teams. Losses have come against solid teams. I'm happy with victories, but I still don't believe Al can build a top 10 team or beat a top 10 team or consistently recruit top 10 classes. Therefore I remain unimpressed.

They're also running more stunts and taking away middle, tunnel screens with Bush and Armbrister. We're seeing man-2-man coverage on drags and shallow crosses. There's also a noticeable change in attacking those quick screens to the sideline.

All through Golden's tenure, at the snap, several defenders would bail, turn their backs to the LOS and run to cover their zone. That has been absent recently and it's really nice to not see.

The aspect of the defense that is most troubling is down-field coverage and awareness of the secondary, particularly with the ball in the air. There's also very little ground being made up by the safeties on deep and intermediate throws. How often do we see a 5 to 8 yrd route and the corners do not close until the ball is completed?

If there's improvement in the secondary and an elimination of recovery and panic...and a more concerted effort to play the ball, this D would approach elite. With only the DT position improvement the only thing to address.

That's what I keep saying! We've only beat some dogs! Although we happy for victories, ain't nobody in FBS level impressed! We big time in name and history only! Until we can put together some victories consistently against Top 20 teams, then we'll still be laughed at. That won't happen until these kids get the type of leadership it takes to get us back in the conversation.

I agree with everything you said except about being elite. You will never be elite without a dominating DT. We need a game changer there. Elite D's get pressure on the QB with their front 4.

The funny thing about those screens is that some of those have been blown up by the base defense against a 3 wide set lol

Jermaine Grace and Darrion Owens have been OUTSTANDING against that play.

They shove the blocker directly into the receiver's path and force him to the backside pursuit.
