Thank you Joe Echevarría

I’ve been away from Miami 25 years now, perhaps I’d recognize this gentleman if I was down there all the time. Who is he? I also saw him next to Mario during the interview. Then there was another elderly gentleman standing behind Mario, he looked familiar, but his name escapes me. Anyone know? Thanks in advance.

University of Miami president. He was instrumental in bringing Mario to Miami and allocating resources and support to Miami athletics. Also Miami alumni

Thanks bruh, it’s hard to follow the who’s who (visually absent local news) being out of state. Appreciate it!

It’s a statistical fact that we Deloitte alumni are excellent human beings . Joe E is really good guy and he cares . A great combo for any school president from a football perspective .

I was low key happy when he was made acting president . Because I care about sports and a big interest in football . As does he . So for the first time in a long time there’s somebody in control that cares about ball. Sorry to the academics here , I’m just a blue collar grunt. A simple man.
Joe is a great white shark.

He cares about $$$$$ and he recognizes a competitive Miami Hurricanes is significant free advertising to the brand he leads. Allegedly a top 10 Miami Hurricanes ranking and the TV time/notirety that comes with is worth ~$100MM in advertising for UM + UHealth annually.

He's built a regional healthcare juggernaut and hopefully will do same on university side. He became the most powerful figure at UM because he was CEO of UHealth, and retains that influence because of that pedigree.

UM EVP Rudy Fernandez is also a very powerful (Joe E's Hand of the King) figure and rabid Miami football fan. Bush the Younger White House Alum and Karl Rove protege once upon a time.
