Thank you, Dr. Frenk. From Miami alums & Canes fans worldwide, thank you for giving us the chance to once again strive for excellence. At its best, Hurricane Football is incredibly special & has offered so many indelible moments for alums & fans of the program. Let's now hit a home run with the AD & new HC hires. You have a unique opportunity to go down as one the most beloved Presidents in the University's history, if you get this right. You made major progress today & we're very grateful for that. Onward & upward. Go Canes!

He’s a complete disaster, dude.
He got this one move right. Shalala did not & we've suffered massively for it. We badly needed new leadership in the AD & we should now get it. I studied his approach to this & the highly successful businessmen he looped to advise him & my assessment is he did the smart thing here. I graduated with honors from Wharton (after attending Miami) and worked on Wall St with elite hedge funds & in my view he's taken a very smart approach to this so far. Yes, we need to see who the AD and HC hires are but this is undeniably a good start.

I know this is an opinion in the minority, but the first priority for the president of the university should be the university's academic standing and reputation. As far as athletics go, I'd rather have a president who hires a competent AD and gets out of the way.

Say what you will about Shalala, but she had this school move up to a top 50 school academically. Since then, it has been a slow decline. Hopefully Frenk can turn it around.

Well, ****. If you graduated with honors from Wharton and worked with elite hedge funds, then no one should know more about how a university president should handle firing an AD than you. We are in good hands. Thank goodness. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

You are on a message board filled with people that never went to the U, including some of the founders and administrators. Some of them care much more about Miami football than academia because at the end of the day, they did not go here.

This point of view is wholly incorrect. A University can strive for excellence in all fields. Schools like Duke (Basketball), Stanford (a variety of sports) and Michigan are prime examples of schools that excel both academically & in athletics. Success in one area does not preclude success in another. If anything, the opposite is true.

There's a strong correlation between success in football and the number of applications the University of Miami receives. When Football has been elite, the number of applications to the University increases materially. That means the University can be more selective about which students are accepted, the average GPA of incoming students rises etc. That creates a virtuous cycle.

Further, it's a strong selling point to recruits if their chosen University has a strong academic reputation & can enhance their ability to land an attractive job upon graduation (most student-athletes won't turn professional in their chosen sport).

I was a Member of the Presidents 100 at Miami and understand the inner workings of the University incredibly well. You can absolutely strive for both academic & athletic excellence. They are not mutually exclusive.

Now, here is the thing about Frenk. Herbstreit basically kicked the tires, probably because he was asked to do so.

Frenk is, just like Diaz Sr., a politician. The difference is, Frenk was a bigger politician than Diaz Sr. will ever be. So I was kinda expecting a politicians move to happen at some point. When Frenk installed his two assistants into the Athletic Department, I kinda knew **** was about to go down. Its the ultimate politicians move, gaining power in a department by installing people who work for you.

So Frenk basically did what he had to do. The next hires will also fall back to him, because he is now getting involved. So, if it goes right, everyone will remember President Frenk who turned the ship around. If it goes wrong, well... Go Canes, I guess.

This is another troll post right? There’s no way anyone actually believes Dr Frenk actually had a hand in this is there?
