CIS, for the most part, has fans that are more knowledgeable than the average fan and yet it has taken years for most people here to look past the coach and start to put blame on the athletic department. So there has been an awakening.

But then you say this (highlighted above), then you say that the typical fan doesn't know who is on the board, ( which is correct), so how do you put pressure on a faceless entity?

Not trying to attack you, because I agree with your post, just wondering what a typical fan could do?

That was after a cursory Google search. I've been on Lemonis for a bit on social media, because he is one of the few that actually provides that avenue of communication. Write letters, get a rally going on down by Hecht, make a scene in a way that notes that THEY are the reason this happened. Blake James is an incompetent idiot, Strawley is his spineless underling. That said, someone should have ended this nonsense years ago. The DAY Blake James walked in and said "I'm hiring Manny Diaz, and I'm paying Temple 4 million to do it" should have been the day someone stepped up and said "We expect your letter of resignation ASAP".

Decent article but the author gets a couple things wrong. Richt was only 1 of 20 coaches in the country making 4 mil or more in 2016. It was pretty close to top 10 (all the coaches in the 10-15 range were with 200-300k of each other) The #10 highest paid coach was Franklin at 4.5 mil, Pennsylvania has a 3% state income tax, which functionally puts his salary at around 4.3 mil. So Richt was within 300k of the 10th highest paid coach in the country at the time. So Miami has paid close to a top 10 salaries for HCs as recently as 4 years ago. At the same time, Kirby Smart, Mario Cristobal, and about a dozen other coaches were making less and look where they are now.

We have the money. They just won't spend it on football.

They aren't going to take money from the endowment, or from the academic side, to fund football or any other sport. Why? Because it's a University, not a football vocational academy. How many times must we tell you this? The athletic department gets to keep every dime it raises and earns in revenue. The problem is that our fanbase wants this school to be managed like Alabama, and it's never happening. You want Alabama level crap? Start writing some checks, stop forcing the school to crowdfund for essential items like an IPF.

The issue isn't that the school isn't spending money, the problem is that Blake James is a poor administrator and doesn't get the most out of the funds he does have available. Miami could have gotten Bill Clark, or a multitude of other qualified coaches for the same amount they are paying Manny Diaz. In fact, Miami could have spent even more, because Richt did the school a solid and retired, saving them millions in a buyout. Miami could have taken those savings and then applied them towards hiring someone and building out a staff. Miami didn't, because the administrator in charge is a moron.

At most schools, there is a small clique of people on the governing board that gives a **** about sports and they are given carte blanche to do whatever needs to be done. Our clique isn't doing a **** thing and that's the biggest problem. Honestly, we should want the University President to be hands off in regards to athletics, the problem is that MIAMI HAS AN INCOMPETENT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR. You can't have Blake James running your athletic department, and expect any kind of success. The problem is that the people that should be handling this(The sports minded members of the BOT, which includes one JON VILMA) haven't stepped up and done anything.

Hire a competent AD, and get out of their way. Not a complicated concept.

No, it couldn't have been the increased corporate dollars coming in once people started viewing the City of Miami, and the regions most important University as the "Gateway to the Americas". People forget that until the early 80s, Miami was more like Birmingham than NYC or LA.

No, it couldn't have been Tad Foote and Donna Shalala raising BILLIONS of dollars for the University and using that money to not only attract world class faculty, but also to make it easier for high achieving students(like myself), who may have not been able to attend the University in previous generations to attend, leading us to give at a higher rate than the old school "Underachieving children of northeastern families" that had made up a huge part of the student body before.

No, it couldn't have been the explosion in regards to scientific research and Miami being on the cutting edge of some of those projects.

Did the football program's success play some role? Yes, it was a nice marketing tool. That said, the dopes in our fanbase have overstated said impact for decades, mostly because we have one of the most anti-education fanbases in collegiate athletics. The University of Miami, had the things I listed not happened, would have been Alabama or Auburn In other words, a good football program, and a school that no one in their right mind sends their high achieving child to.

Then why didn't these huge donors make waves when Diaz was hired? It didn't take a ton of sense to see that this was a stupid hire. James doesn't do ANYTHING unless the donors are on board. He isn't that stupid.

Just sharing what I heard from someone close to the program.

I think a lot of people are washing their hands, but honestly. No one comes out clean in this case, because this was almost a certainty when the dude was hired. There's a reason why I was on this board saying "This is stupid, and a joke" that night. If little old "Write small check to Hurricane Club" me could see this was stupid, you'd think the huge donors would have said something during the process.. Honestly, I think that a lot of people were asleep on the bus, and the bus driver took full advantage of it to stop at a crack house and pick up a crack *****..

With a competent AD and a good HC, we can and should be playing championship level ball. That said, Miami will never be managed like Clemson or Alabama, and for good reason.

You can have quality academics and a nationally competitive athletic department. That said, Miami has to approach it correctly. Miami can't do it like Alabama does it, Miami has to be extremely responsible with the resources at their disposal. In other words, don't hire Manny Diaz and don't have someone like Blake James as the admin in charge.
