Terrifying Numbers On James Coley

Someone needs to look #SimpleDale in the face and tell him that he's a helluva recruiter, a good QB Coach, but a sh1tty OC. That someone should be Golden, but I'll be OK if it ends up being someone else.

If he accepts that and wants to stay in Miami--that's awesome. Keep him on staff as the Recruiting Coordinator/QB Coach, but find someone who can do the OC job effectively.

If he doesn't accept that and he wants to go somewhere other than Miami, someone who will let him call plays...then let him go, find out where he goes to, and put that team on the schedule in perpetuity because that's probably a team even NoDFrio's D can stop at least once a season.

I didn't think it could get much worse than Nix/Whipple. Pricko Suave's a whole new level of stank OC.

when did this happen? we basing that off the greatness of Ej Manuel or the stunning regression of Snickers Morris?

Good as in he's not a liability there like he has been as an OC. Serviceable is probably a better word.

Corch Coley is on Nix's level as a play caller, but he is an awesome recruiter. I would love to find a way to keep him and leverage his strength while relieving him of his play calling duties.

There's no way he's moving back into an Assistant QB/Recruiting Coordinator role at UM. Guy really needed to cut his teeth calling plays at a mid-major. Patrick Nix, who I used to destroy because of his concepts, had a more cohesive plan than what we've currently seen. This isn't a reaction to Louisville. Been saying this since last season. Guy has consistently been a step behind.

I'm not sure about that. Maybe we bring in an offensive guy and Coley stays on as "offensive coordinator." I'm not sure how OSU has it, but when Urban Meyer was brought in Luke Fickell moved back to DC and stayed on staff. He's currently their co-DC I believe. I don't know if he calls plays or not.

Ok, that's a scenario. However, we'd have to bring in a HC who's going to call his own plays. That means Coley goes back to his position at FSU. That means Coley likely leaves, but I guess we'll see what happens.

But it might keep him on for an extra year, just so it doesn't look bad. I mean he's from Miami, lives here. Unless he can quickly line up another OC gig calling plays, what are his options? Quit and sit at home HOPING to get another OC gig? The smart move in that scenario is to take the new position, ride it for a year, and then find another OC gig. That's a win/win for everyone. It gives us continuity and helps the new staff in recruiting, while at the same time, keeps him employed in SOME form of OC capacity, which he can then parlay into a lateral move or another full OC position.

Getting sh8tcanned here isn't likely to land him another OC gig. He's going to end up a position coach somewhere at best IMO. Better to take the slight demotion here, and spin that the best way he can.
