Telling passing game stats in the last year

People often talk about oline, but an even bigger issue of why we have struggled since the end of the 2017 season and nearly all of the 2018 season was the lack of a passing game. Literally every game we have lost the last 2 years we couldn’t pass the ball pretty much. I remember feeling like we couldn’t complete a forward pass vs Wisconsin in the bowl game in 2018 and it was the worst ever. How could anyone forget?

-Miami has 9 losses the last 2 years
-7 of those games we had less than 200 yards passing
-Only 4 wins with less than 200 yards passing the last 2 years

It’s clear that a big problem in the games Miami has struggled the last 2 years has been related to a non existent pass attack, its just hard to compete in games not having a capable passing attack in this day and age of football. And it’s inexcusable given the talent Miami has on O. In 8 of the last 9 games of the season Miami had less than 200 yards passing.. that’s pathetic and hard to win games consistently like that. This is where Miami needs to make the greatest improvement. This blame should not be put on talent, this lack of production should obviously be put on an incredibly flawed system that was out of touch with modern football which is gone now...

Don't you think the OL has something to do with that? Yes QB play has been poor on it's own, but the OL makes it worse. Obviously your QB will struggle if he doesn't get protection, but it's more than that. If the OL can't make holes for the RBs, there's no threat of the run to keep the DL from getting after the QB. It's all tied together. So yeah, our QB play has been bad, but put some blame on the OL and WR drops. Get those cleaned up and any QB will look better.

We can argue which facet is most important, but don't forget that the best QB can't do much if the D isn't worried about the run or he's on his ***.

CMR was just a terrible offensive coach. His ideas were terrible. He tried to do a modern offense and made it look prehistoric. All three years he changed the offense. The first time I've seen a coach take what works and toss it out year to year. I remember an anonymous ACC coaches comment saying Miami doesn't even try and scheme. We just line up and say our players are better than yours.

That was actually Richt that said he doesn't want to get fancy. He just wants to line up and says his guys are better than the ones in front of him. It's sad too, because we are better, but not Ace Single Back 21 Dive 9 times a drive, flanked by some 4 verts better.

Part of the struggles in the passing game come from the combination of a poor O-line combined with an offensive gameplan that does not compensate well for the fact that we have such a poor o-line. For years we've taken our O-line problems and magnified them through play calling (both running and passing) that isn't suited for such a bad o-line.
Very few O lines can block effectively when the defense knows the play and snap count.

Good thread!
I don’t post much but one of the biggest things I noticed was dropped passes and lack of completions. Two games all year with 20+ completions and 9 games with 15 or less.
I feel like not enough blame goes to some of our WR. They were open several times a game and just dropped it.

For sure, the lack of explosive plays in the offense was terrible last year man
Run (for 1 yd)
Run (for 2 yd)
Pass (incomplete or 3 yd)
Punt (for 25 yds)

How many games did we see this sequence of events play out? It was as predictable as Perry clapping his hands before the snap.
