People often talk about oline, but an even bigger issue of why we have struggled since the end of the 2017 season and nearly all of the 2018 season was the lack of a passing game. Literally every game we have lost the last 2 years we couldn’t pass the ball pretty much. I remember feeling like we couldn’t complete a forward pass vs Wisconsin in the bowl game in 2018 and it was the worst ever. How could anyone forget?

-Miami has 9 losses the last 2 years
-7 of those games we had less than 200 yards passing
-Only 4 wins with less than 200 yards passing the last 2 years

It’s clear that a big problem in the games Miami has struggled the last 2 years has been related to a non existent pass attack, its just hard to compete in games not having a capable passing attack in this day and age of football. And it’s inexcusable given the talent Miami has on O. In 8 of the last 9 games of the season Miami had less than 200 yards passing.. that’s pathetic and hard to win games consistently like that. This is where Miami needs to make the greatest improvement. This blame should not be put on talent, this lack of production should obviously be put on an incredibly flawed system that was out of touch with modern football which is gone now...

It's why I keep asking for an accurate QB. That's it. Not Aaron Rodgers. Just give me a kid who can complete passes against air. We haven't had that in literally 2 years.
Yep. We don't need John Elway. We need a high IQ, accurate QB. WAY too much stock gets put into measureables at this level.

Good playing calling and a accurate QB will fix a lot of issues, including our average OL...

Part of the struggles in the passing game come from the combination of a poor O-line combined with an offensive gameplan that does not compensate well for the fact that we have such a poor o-line. For years we've taken our O-line problems and magnified them through play calling (both running and passing) that isn't suited for such a bad o-line.

Still crazy that we lost to Virginia and Duke. GT and BC I can sort of understand; but losing to UVA and Duke the way we did was **** depressing.

What's crazy is they had their best rushing offense in a long time last year. Even though teams knew they couldn't throw, they still had decent success running the football. Without looking up the numbers, I want to say they were around 190 ypg? Not a bad number, especially for such a bad offense.

Lack of explosive plays (I know Richt) in the passing game hurt last year. Horrible route combinations and creativity in the passing game made covering the receivers easy. Throw in bad o line play and inaccurate qb's and there's the results. Our offense has been broke since Richt showed up.

That’s exactly what they averaged running the ball

I keep trying to tell you guys, the OL play was not "bad". It certainly wasn't good enough. It wasn't good. But it wasn't bad. What was bad was our offensive coaching and our QB. Miami averaging giving up about 2 sacks a game last year.....again, not great. But not bad. FSU's OL was bad. Louisville's OL was bad. Miami's was not. It was just average, which isn't nearly good enough.

But middle of the pack in sacks allowed and 24th in the country in rushing yards per carry is not indicative of a bad OL. Try getting a real coach running a real offense and not have your QBs be 118th (ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTEENTH!!!!!) in the country in completion percentage and see how much better your OL looks.

You don't average almost 200 YPG rushing with a QB who is basically an inverse paraplegic if you have a BAD offensive line.

You need a good O line to be able to pass consistently though they go had in hand
Oline wasn’t the problem of why our passing game was sh*tty though . Bad playcalling and qb play was. The oline opened enough pockets for things to happen it just didn’t

Couldn’t agree more

For sure, the lack of explosive plays in the offense was terrible last year man

Wat you talking bout? OL play sucked.
As evident in @OrangeBowlMagic post averaging 2 sacks a game and being 24th in the country ypc indicates anything but sorry ol play. It’s not elite or great but it’s not as bad as people assume it is especially when you consider the fact how simplistic our offense was in not using modern offensive concepts in today’s game.

We couldn't run the ball consistently against anyone, and that is due to many things (monotonous play calling, terrible QB, average OL).

Should be better this year just based off a more advanced playbook.

You have to understand, perhaps the most misunderstood, or maybe not understood part of football is evaluating OL play. The casual fan really has no idea what they're looking at when evaluating OL play. If the offense struggles, the OL sucks. If the offense is great, the OL is great. Those aren't always mutually exclusive, but it always seems to be the narrative.

Again, I am NOT saying the OL was good enough. Not even close. We still struggled with technique, which led to breakdowns, all too often. And the shuffling of personnel was completely ridiculous. The OL was NOT good last year. But this narrative that it was this horrible group of turnstiles is completely moronic.

The OL wasn't good. But it was about the 4th biggest problem with the offense. The playcaller and QB were FAR AND AWAY #1 & 2....other issues were much further down the list, including the OL. Put a good QB on last year's team with a playcaller who has a clue and I guarantee you nobody is saying the OL was this unmitigated disaster.
