Simply because this site is mainly full of sheep who wouldn't know what a good coach or proficient offense was if it walked into the front door of their duplex, let's talk FACTS about Tee Martin.
I have no idea if he is or is not going to be the OC, obviously. No one does yet. But the fury here towards the guy is ridiculous.
1) He has proven himself to be one of the best recruiters in the country. Period. He is a flat out assassin on the trail. You want good football players on your offense? This guy has PROVEN he can get them. He was named the 247 sports 2016 recruiter of the year for the entire country. He can flat out recruit. The talent would be upgraded across the entire off
2) He was fired after the 2018 season by Clay Helton. But let's dig a little deeper here. Clay Helton, by all accounts, is a TERRIBLE head coach. IMO, he pulled a Larry Coker to save his job. Lynn Swann is the AD at USC, and it's clear Helton is on thin ice, so no better way to appease my boss than to fire some assistants.
3) Many on this site point to the 2018 performance as to why they wouldn't want him. And it was not pretty. USC was 84th in yards per game, more importantly 63rd in yards per play. But again, look at the roots here. JT Daniels was the QB of that team, and while a high profile recruit, was still a true freshman. Furthermore, he shouldn't even have been in college. He reclassified to join USC a year early (check it out
HERE). So they played the whole year with a kid who should've been taking pre-algebra.
4) Prior to last year, he was the OC at USC in 2016 and 2017. Let's take a look at 2016:
USC finished 20th in total offense, and 28th in YPP while averaging 34.4 PPG. Not too shabby
And in 2017, his 2nd as play-caller, USC finished 13th in the country in YPG, and 15th in YPP while averaging 32 a game. Again, not bad
So try to look big picture here. He had a bad year last year with an infant, true freshman QB. Who he recruited BTW, and was a consensus 5 star and top 15 player overall. He's young (40 years old), experienced, African-American, modern, and intelligent. Is he the best X's and O's guy in the world? No. But do you think Major Applewhite is? I think Martin would KILL it at Miami, especially if he surrounds himself with the right people. Jajuan Seider and Martin on the trail would be absolutely terrifying for our rivals. Guess who had Frank Ladson and Tyrique Stevenson committed to UF at this time last year? Mr. Seider. And guess what happened when he left. They followed suit quickly.
The outrage over a potential Tee Martin hire is honestly laughable, IMO. He would bring instant credibility to the offense and immediately upgrade the talent here. What more do you guys expect?
