Teddy Bridgewater suspended by Miami Northwestern

some high schools have budgets allotted for them to provide ride share for at risk students if the school they are attending is in a better district than theirs. Not sure if MNW has that. Lots of them are being cut for the upcoming year across the state. But if some funny allocation of money going on within that school TB just opened up a can of worms. Was the money going to the kids it was allotted for or was it all on football players. Was all the money used up and couldn’t get the school or community on board to offer up more so he came out of pocket? Did the school hide it from him? Suspending him in hopes of keeping the FHSSA off them.

Heard about that on D$'s conversation with Streeter over the weekend. This stuff is so ridiculous. TB just trying to get his kids the care and development they need. How is making sure they recover from injury a "benefit" or putting kids in Uber's to get them to practice on time a "benefit"? My HS track coach actually lent me his car to go to a camp. He'd probably be in jail right now.
There’s a school in NC where the booster parents bought a bus and drive around all summer picking guys up for workouts. They’re very successful. He should’ve hired a buddy to do that vs wasting money on Uber.

But yeah you can’t provide rides. Been that way for 30 years.

Did he just admit to more violations with his "volunteering" from the bleachers comment? Here in Houston you have to be employed by the school district in order to coach a sport.
I think he means uncle Roscoe it with some “run trap!” “Get em!”

Like most things in life there’s probably some grey area here and an argument for both sides.

Out of principal, It’s awfully ballsy in the world we live in today to punish someone for being philanthropic, even if the philanthropist is taking such action at least in part out of his own pride and benefit (winning). Throwing that lifeline to some who are probably at or below poverty level is admirable. It’s especially true when you live in the richest nation that’s ever existed even though the majority have to deal with the day to day reality that your dollar goes about 2% as far as it did 100 years ago. Not going political as all sides of our government are culpable. Reality is a guy like TB, who has more resources than most, has the opportunity to invest in kids and show a path to success they’ve maybe never been shown before. Not speaking for him but I’m sure there’s a large portion of his actions rooted in life experience relative to what he lived through or saw others around him experience.

On the other side is the reality that any sort of clearance of compliance was not followed, or he was provided poor direction due to a systematic failure of the school, his own stupidity, or both. Agree with the rules or not, the end result of this is trending in a way where the benefit of his actions is far outweighed by the consequence. Was there a point where he thought this could go sideways and in the end the kids will eat the **** sandwich. I realize I’m an old school middle aged guy but the pomp and circumstance, resources, and general vibe around athletics is insane compared to where it was 25-30 years ago. Along with that is the money programs burn through. The other question is how did he go about spreading the wealth? From what I’ve heard it sounds like he could have gone about this differently and it may have never come to light or at least the magnitude of it.

I realize the FHSAA is not an ideal organization. But you have 41 NFL alumni from MNW with 8 of those currently in the league. What’s been their contribution to the school and athletic department and could this have been gone about in an different way?

A grown-up cares about the youth and supports them and gets suspended for it.

What a great signal we're sending out to the young people. "Hey, that coach that was enabling you to practice under acceptable conditions? Yeah, we suspended him cause that's illegal!"

But go tell me again about how young people are the future and how we need to allow them to flourish and prosper. **** outta here.

Probably means well, but not every HS has a coach who can afford to dig deep into his pocket. Would imagine other coaches and schools *****ed to the HS federation.

It was very stupid of him and he absolutely deserved to be suspended. But his heart was in the right place so I respect it.

I think the rules are dumb but you have to follow them m.

Travesty

Columbus, Chaminade, Aquinas, etc

Those schools are never touched.
Don't they have people who donate to the school or whatever and the SCHOOL pays for that kind of stuff? Seems Teddy could have made this a donation and then chosen how to spend those funds but instead paid directly out of pocket violating rules...

You're close to getting the issue at hand.

After he did the throat slash against UM in Orlando he was dead to me. I’m indifferent to what happens to him.
Agree, fans don’t forget $#!t like that. But in good spirits, I would say it’s water under the bridge, except, this is one bridge underwater…

That game was particularly brutal. We literally got curb stomped and the Louisville players and coaches were clowning us all game. I met a bunch of buddies up there and we had hotel rooms, etc., but I was so disgusted I drove back to South Florida at half time. It was almost as bad on the radio as watching live.
