This much I know: they’re **** sure heading in the right direction, and having a lot of fun doing it. For a reporter whose first three years on this beat were covering a too-serious coach (Al Golden) and a group of players that, in turn, didn’t typically seem to be enjoying themselves, this is **** sure more fun. Mark Richt is his players create their own culture, encouraged by those who understand it, like defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, a Miami native, and his staff. They have the ’86 Gang’ t-shirts and the Turnover Chain and the Hit Stick and ‘The Standard,’ and so far, it’s all working quite well. If you follow players on social media, you’ll notice this: the locker room is a loose, fun-loving place. There are rap battles and dancing and pranks among the usual documenting of the “grind.” Social media, many times, is a reflection of our best lives, but it sure looks like a lot of fun to be a Hurricane in 2017.
