They have nice facilities. Our staff visited almost immediately prior to the destruction of the main side of Amon G. Carter. Their offices and practice facilities (lock rooms, gym, offices, etc.) are built into one of the end zones. Patterson's office looks out on to the game field--pretty cool. If I remember correctly, they have two natural practice fields with a few permanent camera towers scattered about. They also have an indoor practice field, which I think is a bit smaller than a full field. Each position group has their own film room. All the coaches, with the exception of Patterson's have neighboring offices down one hallway. Their gym was nice, but nothing out of this world.
It hadn't always been so nice. We visited just before they did the finishing touches on a major re-haul of their facilities. Patterson built that place from the ground up. It took a really long time. I think he's way too invested to ever leave that place. As part of their clinic periods, they would show us old practice film, and you could really see how dumpy some of their stuff was. I think they're a nice model for us to follow. They're a small private school in a major metropolitan area (though the Dallas/Ft. Worth area is super spread out), that needs to compete with big time state money.
