I have seen a lot of speculation on this board regarding Tate Martell's future, in short there are a few options:
  • Remain at Miami: High risk option given that he is a RS SO behind a RS FR, would likely
  • Transfer: Given that most schools have already began their fall Semester, Tate would be unable to count this fall to his year out from a transfer, and he is unlikely to receive an additional waiver, thus he would only be eligible to play his RS SR year.
  • Transfer to a Quarters System School: Various PAC-12 schools are on the quarter system and he can transfer there while being eligible to play in 2020 as a RS JR.
  • Graduate, then Transfer: Tate had nearly completed his graduation requirements at OSU (there was significant speculation he would Grad Transfer to Miami). This would make him immediately eligible in 2020, while also allowing to him to potentially play this season in the case Jarren is injured or underperforms.
I believe Tate's best option (and the one he is likely to pursue) is to put his nose in the books, load up on classes, and graduate this year, which as a third year player is very doable.

Worst case scenario Tate should stay and switch positions. Deejay Dallas was a kick *** qb in high school yet the thought of playing qb at UM never crossed his mind. And why leave when you know that the qb or qbs ahead of you are on a VERY SHORT leash?

He probably thinks he can be the next Mayfield or Murray.

So youre saying his choices are remain at miami or go somewhere else. You captured it.

If he wants to play he should transfer..bottom line. But he should do it the right way. Which means finish the season out..if Jarren balls the kid won’t play here..I wouldn’t be one of these fans who bash’s him if he decides to leave

Aren't these the same options that every player on every college team has available to them?

Who gives two ***** what Tate does compared to Carson Proctor or Michael Parrott?

Because we need depth at QB, and it’s important that in this case UMs best interest (keeping him on the roster this year) is aligned with Martells best interest (staying on and then grad transfering).

In short, we don’t want to wind up like Nebraska where the QBs that lost the job transferred and the starter got injured.

Even Semester and Tri-mester schools allow people to come in "this semester" as long as its before the late add deadline, iirc.

Very tough situation. I do think he is good enough to start at the D1 level. So I really wouldn’t blame him for leaving. It’s easy for us to say stay but the kids dream is to play in the NFL im sure & you aren’t doing that from the bench. Plus that monster from Conn. is coming next year as well.

id prefer him leave if he wants to start. he may be third string on the depth chart come UF and if he wants to be a QB, he should find a program that will start him or give him another shot to

I hope he becomes the best backup we’ve ever had with some packages here and there. Kids a grinder and football smart (from what we hear)
