This is a VERY winnable match. Yes, they've got that SEC pedigree and Jumbo has consistently beaten Miami (hate tying that, but it's true), but they lost a TON on defense. The Chappell kid is elite in secondary, but our TE's should be able to eat all game on that defense.

Offensively, outside of, Achane who is a game breaker, and King, who may or may not even be the Qb by the time we play them, they don't have much. Their strength is their OL versus our DL (which funnily enough might also be our strength). Their WR corps even with Smtih, was already suspect. Playing bully ball will be their strategy.

I dont think Jimbo will try to milk the clock and get out of the game.. If he gets the jump on us he will try to run up the score like all these other teams have done in recent history when we play these types of games.. I think we can win this game tho.. Just responding to the 20-17 type score, I think it will be higher scoring than that

His defense in MICH wasn’t his, it was Harbaughs.

Every stop DJ Durkin has had (other than MICH) - his run defense degressed by almost 45% - which is why I think a creative run game guy like Gattis will eat him alive.

DJ is also a hard *** in the worse way and that’s how he usually loses his players.

Every stop - other than as an understudy in MICH - he made the run defense worse in year one:

2012 UF - 14ppg | 192 pypg | 94 rypg
2013 UF - 21ppg | 171 pypg | 142 rypg

2015 MD - 34ppg | 258 pypg | 162 rypg
2016 MD - 29ppg | 212 pypg | 212 rypg

2019 OLE - 26 ppg | 278 pypg | 139 rypg
2020 OLE - 38 ppg | 312 pypg | 206 rypg

For comparison:

2021 UM - 28 ppg | 250 pypg | 139 rypg

Thank you for that! You are right he does a terrible job vs the run. Looking forward to see what Gattis can do against him.

Try and remember all the games we played against them, and they were clearly the better team. There was 2 blow outs, 1 tied 14-14 at halftime, that was their title team in 2013, next one was Shannon's last season and we couldn't stop them from running that option with Ponder. He is a conservative coach. Of course if you are just overmatched and they can just run the ball you are gonna get blown out

If Manny were here, yeah they'd absolutely overlook us, and rightly so...because they'd likely kick our teeth in.

But Jimbo knows the effect that Mario has had, the guy is HIGHLY respected in elite P5 coaching circles.

Jimbo also knows that Manny didn't exactly leave the cupboard bare in Miami....so he's going to make sure that his kids are ready to play.

Last thing Jimbo wants to give Mario is more momentum and something else to sell recruits on, as it pertains to why they should come to Miami and be a part of the giant in Gables awakening....

Mario is going to have our kids ready to go get it....

I don't see that with our defensive line depth. I think our defensive line will have staying power all the way to the end.

I know some schools are running it.
But has anyone actually run a top defense with a 335?

I know NCST runs it. I think it’s a good system. It just has flaws, just like any other system.
