I definitely agree with your approach. However, these are my concerns:
- Sure, 8 days is plenty to recover but every injury is different and we have no idea what TVD's actual injury.
- Our TEs are very talented based on high school recruiting. However, most of them are unproven (especially Skinner). Arroyo is finally returning from injury and no knows if he's rusty and/or ready. Cam is our blocking TE. Riley looks like he has tons of potential last week but this will be his 2nd ever game as a true freshman.
- Our Dline is talented and somewhat deep but we lack constant pass rush and if we give Weigman too much time, their talented wrs will eat.
- Not worried about stopping their run thanks to our DC and experienced LBs (edit: this is not a concern, just pointing it out).
- Yes you are correct about our DBs < their WRs and that what scares me the MOST about this game. If they constant make big plays and we give up many long passes, it will be a long game for us...
Regardless, it will be a very close game if we don't give up too many big plays against their talented WR corp.
The way I see it, it wouldve been almost 3 weeks since TVD injured his hand and he mentioned it being a bruise, most likely a contusion, the extra day of rest and the fact we could run down Miami Ohio a throat (and the fact he didn’t get sacked) all bodes well for recovery and i expect him to be 95-100% (theres no rain forcasted either which helps)
Our TEs are somewhat unproven, we know what we gave in arroyo/Mccormick, skinner was identified as a valuable receiving threst last season in a abysmal offense and now he has another off season under his belt so i expect him to progress. But A&Ms linebackers are even more unproven than our TEs
For our D-Line our strength (our edge rushers) combat their weakness (Tackles) and from what i saw last week from both teams the interior is a wash
agreed with LBs, due to the fronts being a wash (maybe even a slight edge to us) its now Mauigoa, Cloyd, Bissainthe, C Flagg & K Smith Vs their RBs and none of them scare me after what i saw against NM
They have the edge at WR but its always said that strong D-Line play can mask DB inefficiencies, not to mention we have Elite safety play and a DC who specializes in coaching DBs…
@JustAFanHTX mentioned that Noah Thomas (who balled out last game) isnt much of a threat consistently, i wouldnt be surprised if we were able to force them to be pass heavy and IF IF IF we can take away their ability to run that just allows our secondary to force weigman to make a mistake (i feel its inevitable with him being on the road and being a freshman, last game could give him false confidence due to playing a VERY weak secondary)
we keep talking about if we can stop their WRs but we seem to forget they have to stop our WRs/TEs AND RBs…we really have to worry about their WRs and i promise a couple WRs wont win a whole game..
