TAMU Game Week Discussion Thread 2.0

While I am disappointed that its not a night game, I do like the advantage that Hard Rock stadium provides for 3:30PM games. The visiting team will be in the sun and the home team in the shade for the bulk of the game.

Mope take:
Our run game doesn't get going;
TVD slow start, early pick, or injury;
Continued lack of WR separation, safety help focus on CY;
DBs get beat by their WRs
QB makes some scramble plays / DL doesn't get home
They get their run game going - run stop is a legit worry of ours - ergo....
DBs break down late in 3rd - get gone over the top several x late in game, MSU 2021 style;

Hope take:
Run game is mids to good
We take shots and connect on a couple of big ones - circle back to ground game - clock mgmnt;
Guidry is the goods and keeps em to sub 24;
TVD gets protected, goes late 21 form and chippy - CY covered? NP - restrepo and new kids get him some rhythm, helps start the spread around;
Arroyo and FR TE are in and used effectively - (passing) middle of field and seam; run blocking & pass pro;
Mario's usual clock gaem/TO plan is shelved and we get a bounce or 2;
No Turnovers on ours, not counting on any for them.
We punch it in redzone at least twice in the first half, make them play from behind or dead even all game..

Mope:
38-17 ATM

Hope:
31 - 24 UM

"It did, and it was explosive, with five passing plays of 20 yards more from starter Conner Weigman. That's massive. Why? Over the past two seasons combined, A&M had 70 passes of 20 yards or more. In one night, Texas A&M had just over 7% of passing plays of 20 yards or more than they've had in the past few seasons. Regardless of the opponent, that shows things are clicking, and it can be put on full display this weekend.

There's not much to take from Miami's defensive performance against Miami (OH) last week. It did what it was supposed to against a non-Power Five team and won easily."
Wait so A&M doing good things against New Mexico means something but Miami against their less ****** opponent means little?

This is why the media is a joke and TrumpyCane is glad everyone is on A&M
How is he allowed to even put that out? Dude directly contradicted himself to fit his agenda. Don’t they have editors anymore?

This is how I see it:

TVD > Weigman (8 days of rest should put him at full health)

Our RBs > Their LBs

Our WRs = their DBs

Our TEs > their Safeties/LBs

Our O-Line >/= to their DL

Our DL <\= their O-Line (they have the interior advantage we have the exterior advantage)

Our LBs > their RBs, Cloyd/Mauigoa/Bissainthe honestly should shine tmrw

Our DBs < their WRs

Our DC > their DC
Our OC < their OC (if it’s truly his offense)

HCs are more of less equal

Crowd is also in our favor

I know you’re connected a but on the A&M side so I’d love to see you elaborate
They’re playing this game defensively to protect their DB’s. Expect a lot of the same thing Miami Ohio did except more blitzing from it Manny Diaz style. Offensively they’re going vertical early and often. Wherever kam kinchens is not, they’re going. Evan might work from the slot a bit more than usual this game

Where do you see us having the biggest advantages ? For me it’s really about our OL/TEs vs their DL/LBs as well our LBs vs their RBs

I will admit I have a feeling this could be similar to how that Vtech game went in 2017

I definitely agree with your approach. However, these are my concerns:

- Sure, 8 days is plenty to recover but every injury is different and we have no idea what TVD's actual injury.
- Our TEs are very talented based on high school recruiting. However, most of them are unproven (especially Skinner). Arroyo is finally returning from injury and no knows if he's rusty and/or ready. Cam is our blocking TE. Riley looks like he has tons of potential last week but this will be his 2nd ever game as a true freshman.
- Our Dline is talented and somewhat deep but we lack constant pass rush and if we give Weigman too much time, their talented wrs will eat.
- Not worried about stopping their run thanks to our DC and experienced LBs (edit: this is not a concern, just pointing it out).
- Yes you are correct about our DBs < their WRs and that what scares me the MOST about this game. If they constant make big plays and we give up many long passes, it will be a long game for us...

Regardless, it will be a very close game if we don't give up too many big plays against their talented WR corp.

last year showed we can run on them and they were better at LB last year. Since our OL is much improved I expect our OL to be able to get consistent push. I think Ajay and mark fletcher need to be heavily involved out of the backfield. We gotta be able to identify their blitzes too. They’re concerned they won’t be able to get home with 4 but they are gonna for sure try to at the beginning
