LB Tamarion Watkins (Charlotte area) is a high school safety with a similar build to James Williams (6'4, 200). The South Carolina schools are ahead but we're pushing. This is his first time on campus.
The Canes just landed the #1 player in the country, and now they want to make a move towards the #1 class. Here is the latest on all the visitors headed into a loaded recruiting weekend:
- There is momentum with elite RB Derrek Cooper (Chaminade). I would peg Miami as the leader going into the weekend. It's still a battle, though, with Ohio State and Texas right there. I'd place Georgia behind those three at the moment. Cooper is a huge priority, as Miami does not want to lose the most talented player in South Florida. They're focused on changing that narrative.
Miami moved up with S/LB Tamarion Watkins (Rock Hill, SC). The South Carolina schools are the favorites, but if he visits unofficially in the next month the equation changes. This was his first visit to Miami.
The Canes hosted 17 recruits this weekend for official visits, and the staff is happy with it how it went. Here is the latest on each visitor:
- Miami continues to move in the right direction for RB Derrek Cooper (Chaminade). He's an extremely high priority recruit and enjoyed learning about the different ways this offense can feature his speed (10.7 100M). I liked Miami going into the visit and still feel that way.
- Top-ranked WR Tristen Keys (Hattiesburg, MS) made his third visit to Miami and continues to express significant interest. This weekend was...
Another LB to keep an eye on is Tamarion Watkins (Rock Hill, S.C.). South Carolina is the Crystal Ball favorite and he visits Columbia this weekend, but the Canes are still in it and communicating well. The visit will tell the story.
The Bank is back open. Here's the latest as Miami heads into its final official visit weekend:
- The Canes have made progress with several key targets. I like Miami for Top 10 DT James Johnson (Northwestern). War daddy DTs are the most valuable commodity in college football and Johnson would be a hugely impactful addition.
- I also like Miami for Top 10 TE Israel Briggs (Visalia, CA). While LSU's mods questioned whether he would play WR or TE, I'm told the staff is comfortable with his frame as a detached TE in our offense. He announces next Tuesday.
