Talent

Coaching is certainly the root cause, but I still think there is a lot less talent on this team than most folks give credit for on this board. This roster is littered with Jags and is not deep at all.

You can use the star & recruiting rankings argument, but go back and take a look at the recruiting battles for talent during Goldens tenure. The majority of the time we went head to head with a heavyweight school for a stud recruit we lost the recruiting battle. Then had to settle for roster fodder, because the coaches were too stupid to have a backup plan in place when their higher ranked recruits went elsewhere. Then they would go into other areas and get kids the local schools didn't even have offers from their local schools.

Given this coaching staffs inability to land, develop or properly utilize top players, how could you tell?

Either recruiting rankings matter or they don't; you can't have it both ways.

Even if what you said is true - Miami is still more talented than 10 teams on the schedule this year. And certainly not 58 points less talented than Clemson.

One final point: Miami's schemes on offense and defense make the players look slower and much less talented than they actually are.

The linemen and linebackers did not look remotely comparable to Clemson's. I'm sorry if that disturbs some people. It was glaring from the stands. We were talking about it during the first drive. Clemson had interchangeable defensive linemen, guys who could fit and attack anywhere and be effective, not skinny guys on the outside and overmatched athletes on the interior.

That margin isn't accomplished solely via coaching. It's like a golfer shooting 98 and insisting it's all technique.

Can't be the talent when their third and fourth string Rb is still running for 10yds a pop.

Remember kstate doing this to us..it's the same sh-t...those two idiots have NO clue what to do against an offense like that at all and this is years later.

Kayaa didn't even have a concussion, they conceded the game as they knew it was a
Wrap and the kehoe shuffle ol would t work. They probably promoting some unearth concussion protocol with bunny scavo...it was obvious by how angry Kayaa was that wasn't some concussion but whatever lol

Clemson doesn't have one linebacker that looks like Juwan Young but I get your point. They are stocking guys at spots that you don't see a drop off. I couldn't tell the difference in their second team, in ours we had a midget safety running a 5.0

It is Miami's defensive schemes that make the players look slow, unathletic and awkward - particularly on the defensive line.

Bull****. Almost the entire view. I don't know what's "glaring from the stands." I was "in the stands," too.

Players look a certain way based on their assignments and the environment. Switch coaching staffs (and I don't even think theirs is all that good), and it's likely a close game. Not saying we win, necessarily, but it's a totally different game.

You literally said nothing in your post that indicates they have more talent. If you care to break down specific athletes or the scheme, I'm interested in hearing it. Otherwise, that's a post full of buzzwords as premises to a conclusion that we somehow faced a far superior (in terms of talent) team today.

Again, BS.

Well said LuCane, well said. All of Awsi Dooger's posts are like this one: lots of buzzwords, cliches, personal anecdotes but never really has any substance once you get down to it.

Michigan had no talent last year and fired their HC. Less than a year and look at them now after hiring a real coach.

If we make the right hire, we will have a similar transformation.

Also, did Ohio State suddenly replaced all their players with more talented ones in one year? In Meyer's first year of coaching at Ohio State, he helped the Buckeyes to an undefeated 12-0 record and a No. 3 AP Poll ranking.
