I think the argument of talent advantage has been put to bed last night.

They had a better OL, WR, RB, LB, and DBs.

What stood out the most was their WRs were much more explosive. The DBs were big and athletic aswell.

Top to bottom this program needs to be burnt down and re built.

Coaching is a disaster.
Recruiting and evaluation is a disaster.

It was put to bed when we lost to UNC. And barely beat CMU. And lost to GT.

If they have better talent then why are they a 5 loss team? They more prepared and played their hearts out, not more talented.
This. They were not more talented than the guys we had on the field, they were coached better.

No, the talent gap is huge.

This is all coaching. FIU wanted it more. The coach wanted it more. The players wanted it more.

Butch can motivate and maximize his guys.

It was all coaching. There guys got the ball in space, made some nice play calls on 3rd and long etc. add in they wanted it more. We got embarrassed. If it were talent we would have lost by 3 scores. Our talent afforded us the opportunity to make it close because it really wasn’t. They had 14 penalties for 144 yards and still won outright.

I've said this for a while, Florida is a great big state and some great football is played outside of Dade or Broward county.

Four kids from Charlotte High in Punta Gorda play for FIU, including Stantley Thomas-Oliver III. That's him below starting things going bad for the Canes with the INT and return to the 18. There's another from Port Charlotte and a couple from Ft Myers. Miami's recruiters "need to get out more," as they say. The SEC has a better presence over here than Miami, Charlotte sent a kid to Arkansas.

The kids in SW FL don't get the run, or attention (nor overrated ratings just because they play in a certain region). To find and recruit them, you can't just rely on ranking services (profit-driven), you have to do it the old fashion way: talk to coaches, watch film. There are some gems over here and many get overlooked, end up in lessor teams /divisions/ conferences (like FIU). Miami did find a very serviceable 3-star Center, Tyler Gauthier (Venice) who started 29 games for the Canes over here, but likely because they were looking at one of the phenoms. One other thing when I got recruited years ago as an undersized OL, the guy told me something I always remembered. "We want kids who have been well-coached and know how to win." It was small college ball, but I started all four years and we won a lot.

Miami has now forced themselves into finding the needles in a haystack.
