You lack in reading comprehension. Noone said Randy's defense was great. The point being made is Randy got bashed for not meeting expectations and his defense was still in solid rankings. The fact that Randy was horrible and got canned so quick is the point people are making that Golden is not even reaching Randy's level yet and we can all say the bar was set pretty low with Randy.
As far as short memory, you must have a pretty short memory as well. Randy got just as much if not less talent when he took over as what Golden got. I still remember talking about how bare the cupboards were when Coker got fired. You guys want to call the recruits we got back then talented, but underdeveloped and then say the guys we got now are just jags. Maybe these guys are underdeveloped or those guys are just jags. Either way, we are in year 3 and the results are the same. 9-3 record and one unit is all time bad (offense for randy, defense for golden).
Randy deserved to get fired, and Golden deserves a little extra time because of the NCAA thing, but Golden doesn't get to start fresh today and a fresh 4 years just because the NCAA crap ended this year. Golden gets 1-2 more years than Randy would have. Which means by next year our defense better show improvement and by the next year, they better be good. Otherwise we are just spinning our wheels and wasting time with Ron Zook #2.

Yeah let's bring in Charlie Weiss or Eric Mangini. They are from elite coaching trees. Sal Sunseri was an elite DC after he left Alabama at Tenn. he's from that same coaching tree. Dan Mullen and Steve Adazzio are both from elite coaching trees. Let's get them. Muschamp is from the same coaching tree you love so much. Let's get him. :****:

Everyone forgets Auburn won a Natty champ 3 years ago and had Top 3 if not the Top recruiting classes for a few years. That Team was stacked last year they just had a real corch on their hands. They brought in an offensive genius like Gus and he utilized the talent they had.
shannon fired his coaches every year as a scapegoat. that is his fault. he inherited calius campbell and kenny phillips, both who were better than anything golden inherited. also, antonio dixon, lance legget, javaris james, sam shields, ryan hill,eric moncur (i know he fought injuries) and colin mccarthy. also, he was already on the staff so he didnt have to recruit from nothing.

So Randy had to deal with the NCAA cloud while he wasn't recruiting certain high schools or developing our players. I still remember Alonzo Highsmith pointing out how Sam Shields didn't even know how to watch film. But don't let me take the wind out of your sails.

Another point - Brandon McGee was the only CB on the roster when Golden inherited this mess his first season. THE ONLY CB - REPEAT - THE ONLY CB.
every hs coach in south florida couldnt stand randy. plus, he didnt like to recruit. he took gaines, kelvin cain, and asante based on some video clips someone sent in. give me a break. shannon left him nothing but an underdeveloped team. he always pointed blame ,it was either jacory or the coaches he fired every year.

Bingo. People really still dont get this. They CANNOT accept that the talent is THAT bad. But it is. Gaines was a kid whose only other offer was from BUFFALO. I cant even FIND any offers for Armbrister. Cornelius was a 3 star Safety prospect. Highsmith is TERRIBLE, there is NO WAY we would have taken that kid if he wasnt a legacy. I said this the other night and I will stand by it. I honestly think that Gaines, Cornelius and Highsmith would struggle to see the field at places like Duke or WF. They are THAT bad. The talent we DO have, is young, or is being used out of position to plug other holes (Chick) because our depth is so bad. The 2010 and 2011 class are really what is weighing down this team like an anchor around its neck right now.
I agree 100%, we lack talent, perryman, stud. That is it. No other real talented players on D. Some Serviceable ones, but in all honesty, none else on D would see the field for UF or FSU. Just the way it is unfortunately.
I agree - people don't understand that we might as well have been put on probation a few years ago - only Penn State has had a bigger "black cloud" to deal with. Can you imagine how easy it was for other coaches to recruit against us: threat of NCAA, Lack of Fan Support, Playing in the ACC, Coaching turn over, etc
We ARE a few years away but I stick with Golden - he can recruit and people we need to be honest with ourselves - we ended up with Randy and maybe even Coker bc not many tier one coaches want to come here.

It's HIS fault Gaines still plays. It's HIS fault Rodgers, Highsmith, and Cornelius are still on the field. He's whiffed miserably at DT. He recruited Armbrister.
It's not like Golden just waddled in here yesterday. He's had 3 years to bring in talent to replace the handful of bums on defense and he hasn't been able to. That's his fault. You don't want Gaines on the field? Get Kirby ready. That's his responsibility. You don't want Armbrister on the field? Why'd you recruit him? Why isn't a kid like Skai Moore - who wanted to be a Cane, and is leading South Carolina in tackles as a true freshman - lining up for you? Where's JaWand Blue?
He's in the best area for high school talent, and he couldn't find a couple of kids better than these bums in 3 seasons? That's his fault. Identifying and recruiting talent is in his job description. Giving the guy a pass for his inability to bring in talent is insane.

Man **** those stats. 9-3 is a ****** recorded for Miami. Fire everybody. Burn the field. 9-3 is Mediocre. Miami can never be Mediocre the talent is better than elite here. s/
Our problem is the lack of depth. The reason why we start seniors is cause behind them are freshman who are still learning. In the end we have to have recruiting classes that bring in 30+ kids. The 20 recruits we got last year really hurt us and it shows. We need depth at linebacker and safety badly at safety since Jenkins and Bush showed their youth and experience in late in the game. Our d-line gets pushed back way to far and Chickilo hasn't been productive since his mid sophomore year. He is awful when he gets double teamed.
