Once again proving that everybody has short term memory and chooses what they want to believe.
Shannon was bashed for his simplistic cover two defense!
I remember vividly, and that is because knowing your history is vital for one to gain perspective and be rational, Shannon defense getting bashed because our "Old School Defense of the 80's" was antiquated and not "sophisticated" enough to keep up with today's game. It's laughable how now you come back with this.
And on another note, the lack of respect you guys give to teams is laughable, forget about the names of the teams, an give them their due, Duke is a good team, are try great or elite? No but they are good, it doesn't matter about the history of the program all that matters is how they are this year. Learn to be a more well rounded knowledgeable fan of the game and for teams their due that year.
And finally, I, unlike most here, thanks to having certain access, can tell you that in no way is their satisfaction at Greentree, their is disappointment, they fell one game shirt of their expectation this year.
But again, before this year we were 5-7, 6-6, 7-5 with horrible recruiting in 2009, 2010 and a patchwork last minute class in 2011, a horrific defense in 2012 returning, a mediocre quarterback who regressed this year, so naturally logic dictates that this team goes 11-1 and potential BCS bowl game, of course how could we not expect that? After all, throughout the course of all sports history this is the common next step, silly Golden slurpers
OP Is a ******
Al Golden has failed to develop the good enough talent that's on the team and he has failed to bring in talent to fill in wholes at certain positions.
Also Al Golden has failed to win w/ the talent on this team thats good enough to win the Coastal
Regardless Golden is to blame anyway you want to slice it ******
Agreed. Fire him and bring in Tyrone Willingham.
Fire Golden and hire a coach that actually came from an elite coaching tree of winners not a bunch of losers like Al Groh and Tim O'Brien.
Get Jedd Fisch back as the Head Coach or higher James Coley both would make a better Head Coach..... if the "higher ups" are willing to give Temple coaches a shot at running Miami's football program (to the ground) then it shouldnt be much to consider hiring a coach that came from Nick Saban, Les Miles, and Jimbo Fisher.
So how long does it take? Will the talent be their next year or will it be too young? Do we have to wait until year 5? How long did it take Auburn after winning what, 3 games last year?
shannon also inherited cokers players plus a top recruiting class. he didnt have to recruit with ncaa sanctions. give it a rest. you sound like a dope. In that 9-3 season, shannon got spanked by va tech in a rain storm and we barely beat oklahoma who lost bradford. we gave up a ton of yards to clemson and got embarrassed by unc. then players acted like girls when playing wisconsin in the cold. only thing better was we beat fsu. I think you guys need to realize now that duke is a "real" program.
I normally don't defend zone because he can be over the top and even ridiculous at times, but you are saying Randy had all this talent and then say that all the talented guys we had when Golden got here are just JAGS. You are extremely biased and don't understand the idea that things work both ways.
Yes, Randy did a poor job of player development and recruiting in the later years, but he started with far less than Golden had and was not even given 4 years to bring in his guys. Add to that, in his 4 years, plus the years when Coker was coach, how many different coordinators did we have on both sides? Kyle Wright and Kirby, had 3 different OC's. Harris had 2. Morris had 3. We also had 3 different DC's under Shannon.
If Shannon was not even given 4 full years, then why does Golden get 4 full years? Sure NCAA hurt us, but we still brought in good classes. Not national title good, but good enough that we should not be giving up 500 yards every game.
Add to the fact that Shannon played a much more difficult schedule while he was here, but by year 3 of both coaches we have the same record even though our schedule was soft as baby **** this year.
Shannon's problem was not defense as much as it was our offense was horrible with him. Because of that he got fired and it was deserved, because he was in over his head. If Shannon got fired because we had a garbage offense, why is Golden not allowed to be criticized for this garbage defense and scheme?
I am not saying fire Golden, and Shannon deserved to be fired, but you are overly biased and need to take a step back and look objectively.
Al Golden is running this program to the ground by lowering expectations and calling it "success" but since he says the right things it's ok..... isnt that the motto around here?
Based on where we were under the last coach, our season record, and our recruiting, we ARE having success. If your only definition of success is playing like the 2001 team, then you are going to keep asking for coaches to be fired.
lol yeah Al Golden is the one coach "great" enough to not have to be compared to the early 2000 teams smh Larry Coker and Randy Shannon werent fortunate enough..... and news flash Al Golden has done less w/ more then Randy Shannon, so sad.
regardless no one was expecting this team to be anywhere near 2001, but there were real goals this team was expected to meet but after it became clear that those goals werent going to be met, Golden and his fans all lowered the bar and started coming up w/ one excuse after the other to make this season seem like a "success."
lol it's funny to me
Another point - Brandon McGee was the only CB on the roster when Golden inherited this mess his first season. THE ONLY CB - REPEAT - THE ONLY CB.

Wait. So you're saying...he was....the...ONLY...CB on the roster?
Excellent thread.
Our defensive talent is comparable to Memphis, NC Central, Old Dominion, and Navy.
What can you expect?

I agree 100%, we lack talent, perryman, stud. That is it. No other real talented players on D. Some Serviceable ones, but in all honesty, none else on D would see the field for UF or FSU. Just the way it is unfortunately.
What can you expect?
Bingo. People really still dont get this. They CANNOT accept that the talent is THAT bad. But it is. Gaines was a kid whose only other offer was from BUFFALO. I cant even FIND any offers for Armbrister. Cornelius was a 3 star Safety prospect. Highsmith is TERRIBLE, there is NO WAY we would have taken that kid if he wasnt a legacy. I said this the other night and I will stand by it. I honestly think that Gaines, Cornelius and Highsmith would struggle to see the field at places like Duke or WF. They are THAT bad. The talent we DO have, is young, or is being used out of position to plug other holes (Chick) because our depth is so bad. The 2010 and 2011 class are really what is weighing down this team like an anchor around its neck right now.
In what world should a Miami coach enjoy or be content with a 9-3 season? Especially one with a weak schedule like ours? Stupid question by Manny.Manny Navarro (@Manny_Navarro)

#UM coach Al Golden on if he'll take a moment to enjoy 9-3: "We have too much work to just take a deep breath."
Doesn't sound like a man content after the regular season.

So 9-3, no more NCAA worries, and a ridiculous incoming recruiting class is "running Miami's football program to the ground"? Good thing you aren't a UF fan. You would have murdered someone by now.
