Why are we always a poor tackling team? WAY too many missed tackles last night. That's reason for the bad run defense

Do these guys not tackle in practice or what's the deal?

Poor technique, poor finish

That's what's concerning to me, basic things like when the linebacker is going for the shoe string instead of the outside shoulder and then a QB like driskel runs on us. These are mistakes that are going to cost us big time against a better team.

Every time Dorito or Al talk it's always "We have to tackle better". Well guys, where does that start??

Have you ever tried to tackle a piano running downhill as you stand in place? How about catch a squirrel with both feet tied together? While I concede some individual bad tackling (especially last night), I'd like to point out that, for the past 4 seasons, regardless of what players we have in place, we almost always read complaints about poor tackling.

If you're not creating disruption at the line of scrimmage, thinking that a Safety or LB should just easily and consistently "fill" alleys or gaps against offensive players who already have momentum seems odd to me - at least for the modern college football game. If you're placing defenders in a spot where the offensive player consistently has an advantage, is it really that surprising when they win the majority of those plays?

Well in Al's defense, we suck at a lot of things so it's hard to just concentrate on one. Sucking at st's takes up a lot of his time

I agree with you lu but isnt our type of D that coach D runs centered around the LBs hitting the gaps, if your D is centered around that you should preach for the LBs to shoot the gaps and make it a priority to make the tackle

They're filling. Or, supposed to be filling. The entire defense, as is plain to see, is mostly read-react. When teams go spread and get numbers in their favor, we essentially have gaping holes and a LB late to fill. If they do so perfectly every time, this defense would work really well. So is that a fair expectation? A college LB or S is going to make a surefire tackle against a RB or QB running downhill...almost every time? Good theory on paper. I think it's flawed in reality, especially in college, against modern spread offenses.

*That doesn't excuse some poor individual tackling that we saw last night. I still think it's unfair, though, to put Dallas Crawford in the position to make a 1 on 1 tackle in the middle of the field and against a guy running at full speed. At worst, put a guy like Jenkins in to see if his athleticism and length will make up for the situation.

I think we're just soft. That's what you get with a "players coach" like Golden. You are what you practice. We don't hit in practice. Play dodgeball. So then we can't play physical and make individual tackles on Saturdays

Tackling really is important in the middle of the field and last night the player groups at DT, and Safety were odd. Did Courtel, Grace, Bush, and Carter have trouble tackling?

God yes. Especially Crawford. Terrible. Shouldn't start ever again imo

Carter showed me something, and Jenkins

Agree, and yet we still do it, kirby was and has been horrible at it, teams need to evolve their defenses not just us, you got all these teams running the soread option and no matter how well you play it you get hurt, especially if you have a QB that can throw like OSU those type of teams are near impossible to stop

So you're saying it is easier to tackle in the other team's backfield before they get their crap together. Can you please explain that to our resident genius HC.

Making solo tackles near the line of scrimmage is what selfish, "me-first" players do. It's better to chase a ball-carrier for 40 yards while holding hands with 4 or 5 of your teammates and combine to make a gang tackle. Shows team unity.

from some of those practice and scrimmage videos it looked like they don't always tackle live even when fully padded. i feel if you practice soft then you play soft come game day

Miami needs tackling dummies so they can practice tackling without any of the bois getting bruised.
