Syracuse transfer WR Trebor Pena to visit Miami this week

The Portal closes in 2 days and there are people who still say “no” to Pena. I don’t get it. He immediately replaces 95% of the production we are losing from Restrepo, elevates the WR corps, and makes the team better.

There isn’t a better option available. Hopefully, the mysterious SEC speedster enters the Portal in the next 48 hours AND we end up being the destination; however, if he doesn’t enter the Portal then what?
Not about what we say. It’s about what he is asking for. He is a solid #3 wr. If he is asking for #1 money I wouldn’t do it

How so? It's not like he put up those numbers playing for Kent St. We saw first hand his skillset. Stop overthinking it. We need a portal WR, he's the top WR in the portal.
One good year. That’s what he had. Multiple years of injury

He’d instantly become our best WR on the roster lol. Dude was an All-ACC player

I’m chuckling at basing how good Pena is by how he did against us and one of the worst defenses we have seen in a long time. He was Syracuse 3rd best wr. Personally, if he comes here, I see his production being closer to Berrios than Restrepo. Wouldn’t he play same position as Toney? We have to do a better job of getting quality snaps to some of the youngsters. Last year should be viewed as an outlier in terms of WR utilization and backup snaps.

All that said, it’s 1:30am and the bars closing at 2am. Do you pass on Pena hoping a baddie walks in at 1:45?

And it’s been said elsewhere, but biggest takeaway is that we should have been more aggressive with WR during winter portal. We can’t go into the spring portal looking for top level talent. If something shakes out due to longstanding tampering that bears fruit late, great, but otherwise there’’s not going to be same volume of talent in the spring as there is in the winter.

No it's not just his performance against us. He racked up almost 1000 yards and 9 TDs. It's proven production. If you can't see the value in that I'm not sure what to tell you.

It was because of volume. Syracuse threw the football more than anybody. Dude had only 2 100 yard games. 84 catches on only 11 yards a catch. Only 9 plays of 25+ yards. That dude isn’t scaring anybody. X averaged 16 yards per catch
In 2023, X averaged 12 yards per catch with TVD as his QB. Did he not scare anybody? Like you said, he soared up to 16 with Ward. When Beck is fully healthy, he is without a doubt better than McCord. With
Beck, our offensive line, and one of the best systems in the country- Pena would put up huge stats in this offense

What’s your solution then, stick with what we have? Dude is the best option in the portal right now and is a reliable play maker. I don’t care how many YPC he has, if he can get 900+ receiving yard with 8+ tds, i’ll be extremely happy

He only had 240 yards in 2022 so no nobody was concerned about him. X averaged 13 ypc in 23 without ward. Syracuse had 3 wrs with over 900 yards including another wr in Meeks who couldnt get on the field for 4 years at uga and he led them in yards last year. That’s 2 guys that never did anything in 4 or 5 years. I’m leaning more towards that being a system.

George had 752 yards and 8 tds on 53 catches. What would his numbers have been had he got 84 catches like pena?

As I have said multiple times I have never said don’t take him if the price is reasonable. If he is asking for #1wr money I would pass.

Can’t compare their talent it’s not even close. One guy is the by product of a system and the other is just gifted. George is better than pena
Huh?

I'm not comparing their talent.. i'm comparing the narrative that because he has only had one year of production and multiple years of injury that he shouldn't be valued or brought in.

He is under the impression that Arroyo only sustained one injury and missed one season. +

I don’t think you quite understand the Pena has all the leverage in this scenario. At the moment, he’s the number one option in the portal, and he wouldn’t instantly be our WR1. We’re desperate for a proven WR. Whether you like it or not, we’ll probably have to pay him more than the staff would like. That obviously changes if someone big enters within the next two days, which the odds of that are shrinking by the second
