Survive and advance, Canes Subdue the Cuse, My thoughts...

Its tough to be a short yardage team when you don't even have a FB or have TEs that can come in and keep teams honest. We've been using Corey Gaynor in the role when we are in goal to go situations and he's been fine, but now he's playing OL.

I'd still force it, but we do have a bit of a personnel issue right now. Also, its likely the coaches don't trust a single back to touch the football outside of Homer and Rosier right now.

What kind of effect would Navaughn Donaldson have had on the inside run game? Does anyone know how he's doing health-wise?

- Hats off to the D. Yeah, they had some busts(like giving up 3rd and 25) but to hold Babers unit to 19 is a great achievement and the TO Chain was being brought out liberally in the first half. I know people hate our rotating of players but in todays game and tempo - especially playing a team like the Cuse - you better develop depth and even if you dont have it- still trot guys out there because even the best conditioned players only have so many good plays in them

As said in another post...

IMO, one thing is very obvious...

Remember boys and girls, this is against the ACC and the ACC alone. There are issues, but it is difficult to really complain about the above.

OP has it right. Survive and advance. We are undefeated and getting better. And one more thing, we are the Miami Hurricanes and that means we are in the playoffs already. Every game is win and advance. No matter how many undefeated teams there are after the season, we are one of the four. No way in ****, TV let's any committee keep them from cashing in on the ratings THE U would bring. There is not one game that would draw more than us against (fill in the name). We do not need to impress, just keep winning. Maybe the second year we might be treated differently but not the first year.

I bet no team has had to play as many different styles of offense as UM has(and pretty good one's too). If the offense doesnt have the case of the Kwame Brown's today this game isn't all that close, IMO

I wish Richt would realize we're not a good power running team. Seems like we have a drive stall within the 10 once a game bc we waste at least two downs trying to pound in.

We're not there yet boss. Get more creative w the run game in these situations.

We didn't try to be a power running team. We went 4-5 wide most of the game. Homer had 20 carries and no other RB touched it. Mailk threw it 43 times.

A win is a win, but this offense is ******* god awful. I don't care how many yards we pile up. The yards are not equating to many points. Watch any other game on TV and other teams offenses have rhythm. Different route concepts to put defenses in a bind.

Mark Richt is always saying "well the defense determines who we throw it to". This is the dumbest ******* thing I've ever heard. We have AR-- no one on Cuse can lock him up. We have Herndon who is a gigantic mismatch against any team. Design ******* plays to get your studs the ****** ball.

The middle of the field has been a n afterthought since CMR has been here. Every time we catch it we are typically tackled. Can we get some guys in space? Maybe? We are too **** simple and not creative enough. CMR has had two completely different starting QBS here and we seem to suffer from the same issues in back to back years.

And what's up with the defense? Do teach gap integrity for ***** sake? The front seven is dangerously wreckless. Good teams like ND and VT are going to hammer us unless we change. We don't have time to fix the issues IMO

AND GET A NEW ST coach. Hartley is not ready to coach that unit.

I kinda agree with the ST our coverage has been shaky and blocking for returns has been ****. I love being undefeated but we haven't played one team with a true heartbeat.. going to get a wake up call in 2 weeks if we don't wake up

That's a bs post. We have played plenty of teams with a heart beat. GT thought they had us where they wanted, beat up after FSU and them having two weeks to prepare. Frigging Syracuse was coming off biggest upset of season and felt like they could do it again. Stop with this "everyone we played sucks" garbage.

no, it wasn't a Rembrandt but W is a W and you can see just how close and how far this program is from really getting back to the premiere level. Miami beat a gutty Cuse squad 27-19 but really it should've been an easier game if not for some drops from Ahmonn Richards(who still ended up with a productive yet frustrating day back at the office). Miami left(or dropped) at least 10-14 points on the table.

Some thoughts:

- Hats off to the D. Yeah, they had some busts(like giving up 3rd and 25) but to hold Babers unit to 19 is a great achievement and the TO Chain was being brought out liberally in the first half. And the last couple of drives where they held off a hard-charging Orangeman team was testament to the depth of Miami front 4 which from the very first play kept hitting Dungey over and over again. I have great respect for Dungey, Kellen Winslow Jr would call him a 'soldya' of the highest degree. But the run defense remains problematic, over 200 yards given up. On the flipside they kept harrasing Dungey for much of the game

- Michael Jackson certainly had a great game with his multiple INT's(he had a lease on that TO Chain in the first half) but Malek Young did a great job I thought on Isahamel(sp?). He has really turned into a very good corner. In terms of the secondary, I noticed Knowles played very little and two frosh, Smith and Carter played a lot. Yeah, I think they will continue to be worked into the rotation as the season goes along.

- Zach Feagles was feable on his first kick but to his credit the rest of the game he did a nice job of pinning the Cuse deep in their territory.

- As for the offense, short-yardage run blocking/scheme is still problematic. And that's the problem in not just coming off the ball, playing in the gun' exlusively, not having a true FB and not being able to run ISO's.

- Based on what I saw today, I start putting the ball in Rosier's hands and just trust the guy. Yeah I said it. Don't protect him, let him play ball. Once again, when it mattered, he's Joe Cool and take away drops he has a monster game statistically and this game isn't all that close. He did this today with very little semblance of a running game till the very end. Speaking of the run game, Homer once again delivered big runs later. He is great in these late situations vs units that are fatigued

- Ahem, gogeta4, how bout our guy Chris Herndon? Lets keep utilizing this guy. He is a real weapon. A future 10 year NFL'er. By the way, we actually saw a few shifts and even a motion from our offense today!!

- OK, should we check Jeff Thomas social media account or is he all good now? This kid is coming on strong week by week.

- Anyone else wonder why we didn't run more clock during that last TD drive? Or is that just who we are - a team that has a certain cadence?

- Overall, it all looked soooo good early on and then became very frustrating to see Cuse get back into it and make it difficult. But you see that we need a few more parts/depth but this team has real character and grit. Get past UNC next week and then onto a huge stretch vs Vatech and ND.

Hey, Miami won. And you know what they say about winning - it beats losing

Run D gave up 280+, not good.

Your thoughts on Richt's lack of diverse run calls....all shotgun zone stuff with Homer running inside....he has to mix it up eventually, right?

it's frustrating on both accounts. I mean, that front 7 is laden with future NFL guys and under no standard is 280 good or even acceptable, bottom line. Now, some of that was QB runs by Dungey but still, 280 is 280

As for our run game, yeah, I mean what else can be said but when you play exclusive shotgun(and dont run any Pistol) it's almost impossible to run any power runs(the iso's) and there is no true fullback on the roster. And others like gogeta4 have been begging for sweeps(which we have seen earlier in the season). Also, the Oline isn't a great run blocking unit - I have been impressed by their pass pro, though

With Rosier's speed and decision making I think we need to incorporate some bootleg around the goal line. Getting YDs on red zone possessions is the one thing holding us back from being a really complete football team

Why do y’all keep saying luck you do realize we were beating fsu the whole game right.and then Redwine gets hurt and Robert Knowles blows three simple plays.Georgia Tech play to Langham shouldn’t have been needed but the fat ref called a bull**** chop block, and caused issues.and then this week we beat Syracuse did you not see the kid could only run.and the runs he did make we’re back yard bull**** or a flaw in the defense of having us spread out 5 wide. Also the ref not calling penalties there’s no luck in our wins we deserve and took everyone of these wins from these crumb snatchers. my only beef is with our inconsistency on offense I believe if we fix that the defense will sure up and be less big play prone.Just from sure energy and Less time of possession on the field are we perfect **** no but I’ll take my boys against anyone **** is you saying .

Haven't seen many UM fans say 'luck' to be honest. Most have pointed out that stastically they have actually controlled most of these games but have stil yet to play a consistent game on both sides of the ball.

A couple of more things I noticed on replay:

- RJ McIntosh played a really good game. Got a push up the middle, was disruptive and had two batted balls off of Dungey. Really played like an elite DT at this level

- on the Cuse throwback play in the red-zone late in the game, both Joe Jackson and Quarterman showed great awareness by not falling for the bait on the first lateral and immediately peeling back towards Dungey. It quickly extinguished the play. Babers called another gadget play(an option pass) that was quickly diagnosed, really nice preparation and awareness by staff and players in the red-zone

- Moving forward, I think we need to see some bootleg/waggle stuff near the goal line. It seems as if Rosier has openings on those type of things

- It's amazing, in every big drive where Miami has eventually won or salted games away, Darrell 'Mr Clutch' Langham has made key grabs. I think he's absolutely earned more playing time

That game showed me that the coaches are still trying to figure that players out. We went 5 wide I think for the first time. No choc in this game and when needed play makers they put big dawg Langham in the game to seal it.

If we lack the personnel for short yardage offense, we need to "cheat"...its not cheating anymore, but you get the idea.

Do what Kansas State does.

Three dudes just push the QB forward on short yardage and goal line situations. Try and stop that four times. Its not like our QB is Glass Joe either...dude likes the scrum and contact, just muscle through. This would have given us 7 instead of 3 early in the game.
