Those concepts aren't mutually exclusive. They can bust there asses and have fun too.
True, it can be fun if you're competing with friends for example. I just was expressing that it's not good if you have to make it fun for dudes to go in there instead wanting to grind cause they have that desire to get stronger, faster, better.
 
Absolutely , no argument there. The biceps also act as stabilizers though.

Sounds good but strength and conditioning shouldn't be about fun. You go to work in the weight room cause you're hungry and want to get better , be the best you can be.
lets be honest its easier to get kids to work if they have some fun. yes work is work and its not always fun but finding ways to reduce the grind and let kids have fun while doing work needed isn't a bad thing
 
A huge part of a S&C coaches job is to motivate players through grueling workout. Should it be fun for a guy in his mid 30s who plays pickup ball once a month? No.

But for an uber athletic young man between the ages of 18-22, it should be exciting and challenging.

I just dont think our last couple S&C coaches were able to challenge and/or motivate like we needed. I dont blame coach Felder tho. Dont think the great Tom moffit could do much with the country club standards CMR held these guys too (okk sorry I promised not to bash the old guy).

I have to agree it seems to be how it is now a days . I wish we had Jerry Rice type workers pulling sleds up hills all off-season because he was obsessed with being great. I wish we had 85 players like Larry Bird who was known to be the first dude in the gym and the last to leave and then he watched film because he was obsessed with greatness.

I do agree with your premise being times have changed.

even then though those 2 legendary workout warriors weren't the norm. yes u had mj and u had others like rod smith who would stay hr 2 hrs after practice catch passes from Elway to make team until his hands bled. even back in th ose days u needed ways to motivate guys to hit weights and stuff they were so great because of obsession but yes times have changed but even in their time those guys were nto the norm

Jerry Rice was a machine. I've heard stories of him running sprints and routes by himself at the Niners facility two days after they had won the Super Bowl. Even now, his off-season workouts are still considered legendary. If the current players train half as hard as Jerry Rice, they'll be in great condition.
