It’s more than that. Alabama recruits better players AND they have the best S&C staff AND they have the best S&C facilities. If you’re going to beat the Bamas/Clemsons/OSU, simply improving recruiting isn’t gonna cut it.

I’m constantly amazed at how some posters here underestimate the importance of the S&C coach. It’s one of the most important hires a head coach can make, and every great coach (Saban, Meyer, Swinney) are all on record as saying it’s the most important position in the program.

It's an incredibly important hire. Especially when you aren't getting the same quality players as the Alabama's and Clemson's. This means all the more room for improvement and it would be wise to hire a coach who can maximize the potential of each player.

I know we are all joking, but this is probably the second biggest hire Manny is going to make. The S&C coach is the bridge between the players and the coaches. They spend the most time with them due to NCAA rules that limit time with coaches. Not only do they get kids ready physically, but they are the one's driving the coach's message and making sure that culture Manny is trying to create gets created. It cannot be stated enough how important this person is to the program.

Amen! Great clip below from Mullen on the SC coach being the most important coach on the staff. Said he wouldn't even take the MSU interview unless he knew his SC guy would come with him; called him even before his wife. From what I can tell, this would be a horrendous hire, and would concern me that Manny isn't placing the importance on this position that it deserves.

Color me confused D. For the S&C role? I always thought he was a DL coach and looking at his resume, it looks like the last time he had anything to do with S&C was 12 years ago????

Dont know much about the S&C network but you would have to think Darren Krein is at least on the board and worth a call to gauge interest. His resume seems to stand up alone even without the Miami ties. That dude was one intense **** on the field. Only thing that scares me is it doesnt look like he is working right now. Why didnt someone scoop him up after he left the Colts?
